My canvas bell tent has arrived and I can't rememeber from my pre kyam ridgidome days what knot I use to attach the guys to the loops on the tent!! Is it a bowline and if so do I use the loop as the "rabbit hole"?
Can't wait to get a night away in it on Saturday. Woohoo
I was in my teens, when I last had a bell tent (over thirty years ago)... The loops had 1 1/2" dia. steel rings sewn into them, which we tied the guys to with '5 turn blood knots' (we used to tie our fishing hooks on with 'bloods' too). It worked fine for us and never let us down, but the ropes were soft linen (I think) in those days!... If the guyrope material is fairly supple (not 'springy' nylon) a 'Bowline' should work fine I would think...
The whole tent only had nineteen (wooden) pegs (eight round the base, eight wall guys and three guys from the pole 'dolly') and it never moved, even in the strongest of storms... Lovely tents!...
Gawd, and here I`ve been just tying a knot in my guylines all these years, without even knowing what it was called. And I`m married to an ex-Venture Scout....oooh, the shame!
