I'm worse. we've got to the point now whereby we've upgraded a couple of times in the last 7 years and had a complete refit of most of the gear within the last 12 months. My problem is that I just love all the gear we currently own, but I would like more and more just in case different camping opportunities arise.

For instance, I'm in my mid 40's and myself, a brother-in-law and best mate (all similar in age) are spending 4 days in the lakes in Sept ...attempting Scafell and Helvellyn...so we have my Coleman 3 man...which will be cosy..none of us are that small. For regular half term and summer camps we have the enormous Khyam ...but that takes the best part of 45 mins to erect. So I am now contemplating the Khyam QE system tents or Outwell....but I won't get rid of the others.

You will find me aged 75 surrounded with piles of canvas bags, old lamps, battered coolboxes and bent pegs.

Surely that is worse?

Nick

Is there a fashion element in tents, I don't mean spandex and glitter but more a "this years tent must have" thing. I recently saw a Wynnster Curlew 8 in chocolate and gold and thought it looked a serious contender for "most attractive tent" category.

Best part of the day is walking around the site seeing what's new and what is likely to blow away overnight! Favourite day out is Croyde beach followed by a leisurely stroll round 4 fields of tents, seeing what's what - OH thinks i'm nuts, which i probably am. Would cross several counties for a good camping exhibition - no intention of buying, but you can go inside everything if you want. Particularly enjoyable if you have a chair to sit on in the tents you really like. Now, that's sad, but at least i have insight into my illness!!

Hi Gang,

For me its not only the tents (which is a large part of my addiction) but also all the equitment that goes along with camping. I am lly obsessed about trying to find the idea barbeque, kitchen/utility tent, tables/chairs., lamps etc, etc,. My partner has to constantly remind me that already we are struggling putting our gear into our Honda Accord to the point where I drove to Cornwall on our last trip with them having to sit in the front seat with sleeping bagges under feet and cool bag on lap.

I know get a trailer!! Now that's an idea!!!

Not exactly (12 man khyam for 5 people!) but I do go around lookin at other khyams to see if they are better erected than ours, eg, i quite often thinking 'they haven't goy that webbing tight - they will never get the poles into the feet...' and then berate myself as my poles never all go into the feet on the porch!!  So I have khyam envy of anyone who can make theirs do that!

we, like many others, simply love to take a look at what everyone else has, a nice casual stroll around a tent field passing the time of day with like-minded people is what it's all about.  I don't suffer tent envy as completely love all the kit we have and our tent is just fab for us, but still like to see what others have got or how they use it - always give you idea's.  Another thread I read somewhere referred to speaking to other campers about their tents and kit - we have done this and had several people admiring our tent and even shown a couple of people round it!!....the best bit for us is the admiring glances and comments we have when we are camping in our vw camper - it doesn't get much better than that and we have made so many friends on sites due to our lovely old van!

I love our old canvas tent, looking really retro with the old crochet blankets and rugs all over but.....

I would kill for a vw camper and definately maim for a landrover, the ones with the 12 seats and a tent on top.

Maybe when the kids have left home, now how can i hurry that up!
