I have a number of spare door poles and have decided that if I can get some waterproof nylon then I will make a tarp/porch for my Venture 500 to give us a little more room. I have located a supplier who sells both 2oz and 4oz waterproof nylon but I am not sure what weight of nylon is used in tent manufacturing. Should I get the 2oz or the 4oz - you decide.

I would go for the 4oz Nigel.  Nothing scientific in my aproach but I reckon your heading into uncharted territory so I would opt for the heavier just in case!  What ever you decide, good luck.  Sounds like a great idea!

Sounds good Nigel, keep us posted on your progress

Ask the company to send you a sample of the 2oz and the 4oz fabric in the colour you think is closest. You can then compare the thickness of the sample to the fabric the tent is made of. It's best to check the colour too before you order, as I've found that they look very different in the flesh than on a website.
