Hi folks.

Wonder if you could give me your advice on what to do with an old SV8.  We bought off ebay last year.  Not sure what year it is but I think they only came in in 2005 ( correct me if I'm wrong ). To cut a long story short .. we only expected it to last for one season as it had been well used.  The porch is leaky and the previous owner tried a few heath robinson repairs with some sort of duct tape in that area.  I put seam sealer on all the inside seams and got the inners washed.  Rest of the tent is sound but a little faded.

So, we went and bought a new one for this year ( that makes 3 tents in 3 years  ), another SV8 because we  love it so much.

Our hallway is cluttered with too many big Outwell bags at the moment ..  not allowed to buy anything else hehe..  him indoors has put his foot down.

I wouldn't think this would be worth much to anyone but it would probably get some one through this season no problem.

Freecycle, advertise here or tip ?   Friend says ebay again .. but not so sure.

Any advice welcome.

Hi, should be fine selling on ebay again aslong as you advertise it honestly & point out any faults.  Or maybe try Loot?

Having said that I'll bet someone just starting out on here will snap it off you!

Good luck, hope you find a good home for it...

You`d get a lot of camping karma points if you put it on Freecycle, that`s for sure. If there`s a lot of faults then it`s risky putting it on ebay, however sound your description...there`s always one nit-picker that doesn`t read the description properly.

Hi hlk01,

Sorry to hear your original SV8 is reaching the end of its life so soon !

One immediate difference between the 2005 and future models was the introduction of an EHU entry point for the SIG on the 2006 model. Hopefully that'll help identify which year you've got.

I agree with above, so long as you're honest when describing the SV8s condition someone will probably snap it up.

Cheers,

Pete.

Thanks folks.  there is no entry point so it must be a 2005.  Anyway we'll be able to enjoy our 2007 model when it arrives ( replacement for 2006 with anchor point in wrong place).  it's a smashing tent as you'll know Gunnar.. this was the only way I could convince hubby to get me one as we only bought the Harford XL in 2005. Gulp.

I thought of keeping it for spares ( lol - hubby says too big ).

So off to make a decision.   mmm  If I could raise enough for a universal side canopy .. now that would be a good thing.   But Val's point equally sound.

ps Gunnar - you ever seen the side canopy on the SV8 ?

Yeah its certainly a great tent...wouldn't part with ours unless it was for another.

I haven't seen the side-canopy on an SV8. I have seen the side canopy on the front of a Norfolk Lake (Spideygirl has some piccys). Also seen the Monty front canopy on the front of the SV8 (piccys on a post last year and this).

Personally, we use an Oklahoma Day Tent for our cooking and dining. We've also recently started using 1.3M door poles on the front when its a little wet (not downpours), this seems to work a treat.

Good Luck,

Pete.

Luckily I have a friend who will loan me her side canopy for a weekend to try out.  Hubby won't swing for an Oklahoma or even a kitchen tent at the moment, so maybe the side canopy will do the trick.

Still thinking about the old SV8 ..  never sold on Ebay... decisions decisions..

We bought a monty canopy for our SV8. Have tried to upload the photo to put on our profile but the camera is playing up at the mo. We were really glad we got the canopy esp with this weekend's rain. We put the outwell windbreak round one side and across the front of the canopy giving us a nice area infront of the tent.

Personally with the number of faults your old tent has I wouldn't risk ebay but maybe advertise it on here as people are more likely to read the description properly and you don't have all the hassle of feedback etc.

Derek - nice try.   Only thing next time the tent leaves the house it's not to come back..  Looking for a more permanent solution.  I will put an advert on the message boards tomorrow evening.

How about breaking it for spares? I'm sure you and other SV8 owners would be glad of some spare poles.

I think if you are honest on ebay, put the fact that it can be used for spares/damaged in the title as well as the description.  I sell on ebay and always ensure that the buyer knows what they are getting.  You have to describe every fault and show pictures where you can.  This does seem a lot of hassle, but if you then follow up with an email to the buyer to remind them of the state of the tent.    Do pick up only and let them see the tent and again tell them to their face about the tent.

The side canopy is great on the front of our Norfolk lake, it has made the front door useable in bad weather.  The front of the SV8 is the same, so you could put it on the side or front.

Thanks spideygrl .. seeing the pic in your gallery has really helped with the decision to get a side canopy!    Especially as I only thought to use it at the side.  Can't wot to try it out now,
