I've got a low powered (150W) one, anything too powerful, as everyone else has said it will either kill the battery in no time, or blow a fuse.
It's handy for charging the lap top mobile phones, cameras, ipods, battery chargers, rechargable lamps, cd players etc etc, but not all at once -without buying extra chargers and leads from what you use at home if you've only got 12V supply.
If it's used to charge stuff, I use it while driving to keep the van battery from getting drained.
electic hook-up cable may be more usefull, but you are tied to a pitch with hook-up then.
