Reading the Camping Calamities thread made me think. As a novice to camping I have dutifully packed the things on the Camping Checklist, have some spare tent pegs and a pole

but what should be in my Tent First Aid/Tool kit?

As we camp from the car I usually rely on the car first aid kit for camping but I keep useful stuff like painkillers, anti-histamines, spare inhalers etc in it.  Depends on what you need really.  I tend to carry basic tools like a screwdriver set, adustable spanner, gaffer tape, swiss army knife in the car as well.

Follow Vals lead put it all in a bag and when you buy anything put spares in the bag or if thowing anything out e.g.  inflatable bed cut a piece out for patch and plug incase you lose one.  I also carry cable ties and a swiss army knife told OH it was a prezzie for him.

You mean to say that some people actually throw out their old camping gear?

Duct tape is like the force. It has a light side and a dark side, and it holds the universe together.

I`m worse than that...if I see someone dumping a storm damaged tent in the bins, I wait a decent ten seconds interval after they`ve turned the nearest corner and I`m straight in there. Guylines, sliders, replacement toggles and loops, fabric for patching and if you`re lucky, usable poles and pegs. It`s amazing what folk dump, and sometimes spares cost significant pennies in camping shops.

When my tent broke I cut it up and have spares for everything. The best part was I took the waterproof bottom off the bedroom and now use it as a boot cover, they cost £5+ to buy in the shops.

I now have extra everything and I use the bag for my old tent as storage for spares, mallets and repair kit etc.

As for a first aid kit I use the one for the car, On top of what you get in the kit I have paracettamole, ibroprofin, anihisthamine tablets and cream, calpole 2mnth+, extra plasters, micropore tape, a decent pair of scissors - cause the ones you get in the kit are rubbish, a resus mask (the ones with the valves). And must put some after sun in there too. A bottle of water is handy for cleaning out cuts/eyes etc, make sure you replace it regually. Wet wipes and tissues are also handy always have some in the glove compartment.

I highly recommend the anihisthamin tablets as my cousin got stung by a jelly fish in cornwall one year, she came out of the sea pale, calmmy and disorientated, we were starting to think about taking her to A&E when my mum found some AH. tablets in her bag, just 15 minites after taking a tablet she satrted to recover.

Thanks for the suggestions. OH works for 3M so I shall send him on the hunt for gaffer tape and sticky patches, and then start putting together a little bag full of kit.
