We had our first camping trip this weekend at lakeland haven site where we had a brilliant time. Friday night was a little scary as the winds were quite strong, when putting up the tent we did try using the metal pegs you get with your tent but these just kept bending as the ground was very hard, we also tried the red plastic pegs which we did get in the ground but are useless now because as we pulled them out they had also bent, can anyone recommend any pegs which will not bend or break.
Delta pegs are excellent in most ground, but if it is extremely hard or rocky then you need rock pegs and a hammer. I understand that Delta hope to have rock pegs available in the near future.
Generally speaking, a lot of the pegs supplied with tents aren't really much good and most of us replace them with our own 'tried and trusted' pegs...
The round 'wire' pegs are OK for around the base of the tent but aren't much good for anything else, as they tend to pull out of the ground easily under pressure... For the main structural guylines I'd use 9"-10" 'rock pegs' particularly in hard stoney ground (they cost about 50 pence each). I dont know how many you'd need for the 'Vango Oregon 600' but eight should probably be enough... Some nylon/plastic 'power pegs' or some metal 'angle pegs' for the rest of the guylines should be fine... The whole lot should cost less than a tenner and with those pegs your tent will be fine...
It's a common worry, when you first begin camping, that your tent wont be able to stand up to the weather. Don't worry though, once you get a few decent pegs, you'll soon learn to trust your tent and get a good nights sleep in all weathers!...

The S/steel delta for your guy ropes and Fox Bivvy pegs
for your tent.Very expensive but without a doubt the best and most secure for any kind of ground.
