The carpet, I think, is extremely important when using a SIG. The footprint groundsheet keeps the bottom of the tent clean but the carpet stops any damage to the SIG from the insode from things like tables and chairs. It does add a bit of extra warmth but the prime reason I use one is for SIG protection.
The carpets fold up extremely small and pack away in the smallest of places. My one fits under the drievrs seat of the car if it has to. Well worth it in my opinion.
Try www.ukcampsite.co.uk/redirect.asp?redir=http://www.allweathers.co.uk they are still advertising the Vermont XL with the carpet so I assume they still have carpet in stock.
