Do you peg them down? , or are they just held down by the weight of the tent , and if so, how do you keep it flat in the wind till you get your tent on top of it?

Your thoughts please as I`m just about to order one for my Vango

Your tent furniture will hold it a bit but I would peg it at the door's and bedroom entrances.I personally peg it all round on top of the tent skirt,this stops any drafts.

we also peg ours out, plonk the tent on top, and then repeg it when we peg the rest out! Hope that makes sense!

Sorry if this is a stupid question but what size should the groundsheet be in relation to the tent footprint?

Also would a sheet of polyphene or taupauline do?

I'm not that experienced but to my knowledge the groundsheet should be the same size as tent or slightly smaller.If its bigger then any rain would land on it and then run under the tent.

We only bought a footprint to save the hassle of trying to cut out to the shape of our tent. I'm sure polythene or a taup would do the same trick, its only to protect the SIG from dirt and rough ground.

a tarpaulin, just slightly smaller than the tent footprint is fine. Make sure that no ne is sticking out or rain will run in under the tent. I used a 5mx4m blue tarpaulin from b&q for about £6.50 and found them to be the cheapest.

I too used a B&Q tarp cut to size to fit under a Monty 4. If it's windy I put the tent bag on one end and a pole on the other just until I'd rolled the tent out onto it.

When we had the Outwell Nebraska I bought a footprint for it as this saved me joining two bits of tarp together.

I didn't notice the Outwell one was any thicker than a B&Q tarp; but it did have pegging loops and came with some pegs.
