is getting out of hand ….. and it’s only been a month.

Hello Everyone!

First post and I just wanted to say big thanks to all you wonderful people for the sage advice, enlightening tales and general silliness that makes ukcampsite.co.uk so flippin’ brill.

This site had been such a discovery, a true revelation for a novice like me and it’s stuffed to the gills with really helpful, humorous, and on occasion, downright nutty folk.  Love it and yes ‘fraid so – I’m addicted ….. and so is the mutt.

We’re bleary eyed by the end of each sess.  In fact this site could be sponsored by Pringles – once you pop (in) you can’t stop.

Any old hoo, I’ve been quietly watching from the wings, getting all sorts of pointers and you guys haven’t let me down once.  Can’t believe I’ve done it but it really has become the mad month of May ……

  • Vango Idaho 400 from that nice chap Martin at OutdoorKit.co.uk
  • Groundsheet (good tip)
  • Vango Nitestar SB for me (snug or what)
  • Vango Baby SB for the pooch …a slightly spoilt Jack Russell Terrier methinks
  • Double airbed using the picnic rug underneath trick – (cool)
  • The obligatory Delta Anchor pegs (even better tip)
  • 30L 12v/mains cool box (great bargain from Lidl diddle!)
  • Camping light & fleece liner (from the diddle again)
  • Campingas Twister PZ270 with case – (good price from outdoor world but boy were they slow to deliver but the lovely Marta sorted it all out)
  • Black Cat heater – oh err just hope the hound can tentshare.  BTW great price from United British Caravans.

Tiso Outdoorworld deserve a mention in despatches for having untold reserves of patience concerning me mooching around the store for what seemed hours on end, asking lots of obvious/duh questions. I then proceeded to make a major purchase - 2 ice creams in the restaurant for me and the hound (hot day) and like a cloud of midges, a group of people surrounded him with lots of oohs and ahhs and “och isn’t he lovely and so well behaved sitting on that stool all by himself having an ice cream”.  At this point even I, doting/adoring/proud mum of short haired 10 yr old terrier thought “this is surreal, what’s happening?”  but then he does rule the roost I guess.  (I did make some proper camping type purchases later if this makes me sound more normal ….. No?  oh well I tried)

Moving swiftly along …….I was amazed at the amount of “stuff” I had lurking around the house that could be used for our trips so overall the outlay wasn’t too bad for what will hopefully be a longterm hobby/commitment/obsession etc.

Apparently lots of people have been bitten by the camping bug this year and demand is causing probs for the retailers.  I have to say I’ve been mightly impressed with the good old fashioned customer service standards that seem to exist within the camping retail fraternity.  I mean, when did shops recommend a competitor to meet your needs if they had run out of what you were after? Time and again I was given referrals for the odds & sods I was after – I like the way they do business.  Spot the corporate drone!  Loathe it but it pays the bills and buys the ….tent/wine/dog biscuits  J

And to think this camping melarkey has come about as a result of a trip to France last year with an ex boyfriend.  2,500 miles from Paris to Provence, through the Ardeche, taking in the Dordogne, the Loire and along the Normandy coast.

Absolutely fell in love with the whole idea of camping … as and alack the BF got the elbow. Can’t have everything in life LOL.  Just me and the “wee dug” now, at one with nature – no EHU for us.  Can’t soddin’ well afford it now.

Can’t wait to camp out, weather’s dodgy this w/end but that’s no deterrent to a rookie on a mission –  a woman putting a 4 man tent up on her own in the wind and rain ….. watch this space, it could end in tears  LOL

Once again cheers for all the tips and if I could offer one tip in return it would be ……. don’t buy those stupid bloody 4 pronged toaster gimmick thingys – they are so pants.  Buy a beer instead and watch the sunset from the comfort of your own little wobbly palace!

Much Luv from the latest newbies

Cal (girl) & Tac (err um he must be the dog then) xxx

PS   Valk_Scot – can you please adopt us?   You seem to know loads of really useful things like all mums do xx

PPS  Some of the humour really cracks me up (you crazy so & so’s know who you are) so keep it coming peeps!

Welcome Calexicana, I echo everything that you say about this site. As a relative newbie myself, everyone has been so kind, helpful and dare I say, patient, bless 'em all I say. Enjoy your camping trip, it'll be good excuse to spend some quality Mummy/Tac time together and good on you for going it alone. Go for it Gal!

Also a newbie...and one foolish enough to have bought one of those wibbly-wobbly toaster affairs!  Well, it was just the thought of stale bread for breakfast on day 3 that drove me tooit...!  Unfortunately the whole household has been struck down with a nasty tummy bug lurgy type thing, so we've had to cancel our trip (boo!) this weekend...I would cry but I'm feeling far too pants to do anything other than lie in bed hugging my laptop to me and reading everyone else's plans!

Have a great trip both of you!

Laura x

PS I want Val to adopt me too!

Oh and a tip for the corkscrew /bottle opener - tie a glow in the dark piece of guy rope to it

Good luck with all your future holidays.  Don't forget to check out the meets and rallies to book on one.  Loads of fun!

Welcome to the site.

Just seen you have purchsed a 12v/mains coolbox from Lidl. How do you intend to run it, if you dont have EHU. Dont run it from the car battery as this will run it down very quickly.
