Oh crikey! Just looked at the BBC 5 day forecast for Clitheroe. We've booked and paid for two nights, tues and wed and tues/wed are forecast to rain and thurs (packing-up day) has the cloud/lightening thing (storm?) forecast!! http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/5day.shtml?id=1153

Our kids are really excited and our six year old has been counting down the days but... would it be a big mistake to still go?

No - you should still go please dont become a fair whether camper you can still have fun in the rain - just remeber if you have to pack your tent in the rain - make sure you dry it out as soon as you get home and if you can dont pack it back in its bag but lay it loosely on top of everything.

It is what you make of the trip and you would not get your money back!!

yes you definitely should go - there's loads to do round there - I seem to recall there's a castle in the town and a swimming pool - as well as lovely countryside - and you can still make it nice and cosy inside the tent.

Forecast has now changed to dry on Monday (day before we go) and Thurs' thunder has been replaced by heavy rain!! I think we will still go. If we're pitching the tent in rain though, do you not get the underside of the top bit all wet/muddy whilst you're putting the poles in etc? Our groundsheet for the living area attaches after you've put the main bit of the tent up and the groundsheet for the bedroom area is attached to this pod thing that hangs up.

The swimming pool is a few hundred yards away from the site, the river is lovely and shallow and great for playing in, there is a childrens playground plus a sit on railway that runs sometimes. Wonderful place. All this a few minutes away from site. PamJ

 The 5 day weather forecasts are about as reliable as tarot cards or horoscopes !!

Yesterday, it was rain for 5 solid days on the forecasts, today, surprise, surprise, it has changed to rain with sunny periods ?????

Just go and hope for the best, but prepare for the worst !! 

We had the same dilema last year on our first trip and went camping anyway.  It was brilliant the site had a pool so we all swam in the rain and when we needed to dry out a few things we used their tumble drier.

We are now prepared to go camping in rain or shine.

Under the  front  seats in the car, I always have wellys & "mac in a packs"  just in case of bad weather.

We have just come back today from 3 nights camping near Grantham. Rained from Saturday night until we left this morning. When I was dressing my 4 year old this morning in the cold tent he said 'I've loved this camping mummy'.... they don't care as long as they are warm and having fun!

For every camping trip we take the full range of weather beating kit - wellies, waterproofs (jacket and trousers) and fleeces (inc. hats & gloves) and shorts, shades and suncream!

Take some indoor entertainment ( for us this is Boggle and Pass the Pigs) and find out about under cover things to d oin the area you are visiting.

On a wet muddy trip try to contain the mud and wet in one area of the tent (porch, if your model has one) and keep on set of dry clothes safe for every one.

Get a cheap tarpaulin from B&Q or somewhere similar 3-4 quid one, spread that out before you get the flysheet out if you're worried about muddy patches, chances are that as long as you don't walk on it whilst putting poles through it will be OK but if you get a tarp you can always chuck it at the end of the hols or take home in a bin bag and hose down on the washing line.
