We have just come back from a good/bad first family camping trip (bad explained on another thread!!).

I really dislike the Montana 6 door, such a bad design, because of the slope inside gets wet as soon as it is opened after rain, also don't like the velcro fastening for the outer door. But oh a high note the front extension overcomes this and it offers fantastic wind protection.

Thumbs up  for front extension.

Agree totally with your comments, although it did'nt rain when i used it (only used once) i noticed that would happen. Did'nt use the porch side door as the car was parked there. Maybe thats why the tent has 3 doors.

How much did the extension cost? Great sales ploy isnt it? design a tent with an angled front so you neet to buy the extension! should have come with it at that price.

Even so, very impressed by its stability. You can at least see why it has heavy steel poles. Still love it with all its faults (sound like the missus describing me now!)

best wishes simon.

Simon got it from Camperite leisure. I was undecided about canopy or extension, and for us the extension was a fantastic buy we kept cooker under there and sat under when it was breezy. Cost £89 or £99 I think, worth every penny.

Thanks for that, I have seen the canopy and it looked pretty useless compared to the extension as that would do away with the need for a windbreak.

Might leave it till next year at that price though. See how we manage without it first, unless i catch a bargain somewhere (can't resist a bargain me!)

regards simon

I think that Outwell intended that the small porch (they actually call it the rain porch) be used during wet conditions. As you said, if you want to use the main door in these kind of conditions then the canopy or extention options are definately the answer.

Got the canopy here and its just as good as the extension for protection in the rain.

Hi Simon - just a note on the extension for the Monty - I have just bought one thanks to Emma - (she kindly submitted a link to www.camperite.co.uk) after I had been enquiring on how to get one.

These extensions are a limited production run and I know when I got mine there was only 6 left on the above site - and was informed that Outwell are not producing anymore - I was thinking that maybe he was saying that just to get a sale but I have since spoke to an Outwell rep and he confirmed this.  £99.99 does seem alot of money to shell out - but I reckon mine will pay for itself on its first trip out.  As others have said it makes a great kitchen area and somewhere to sit when it is breezy if you dont waste to be indoors.

Weather is due to be dodgy, our new extension comes out of the bag tomorrow. Plan to use it as a kitchen & drying area. Will report back on our return!

We have the canopy and a windbreak which is ok unless rain and wind are driving horizontal..

We thought about getting the extension until our local camping shop chap pointed out that it's an open ended wind tunnel and could get blown/ripped off in bad winds as there is no way of closing the end off..

At least with the canopy the wind comes in one side and out the other..and we go down the pub!
