We were guyed down as good as we could have been, and me and my sister (not the men!!) were doing guy and peg check about every 20 - 30 minutes! We Were Like Drowned Rats!!
The site is really just sand, and the wind was just moving the pegs about and with the rain as well it was just making huge holes around each pegging point.
If it had just been rain we would have 'stuck with it', but the wind was just too much.
we spent a good hour ( on the way to the toilet!) trying to help other people re-guy and some 'mad' people were actually trying to pitch!! Mental!!

However - what did annoy me was the number of campers who abandoned their tents on sunday, and I ended up dismatling Gazebo's and pegging out abandoned equipment - which was badly put up in the 1st place - and on its way to crash into my tent/car and other tents. This is the first time that I have experienced this problem. Did any one else have such problems ?
We stayed on a site in the New Forest and on monday morning there were many abandoned tents. Some, the owners hadn't even disconected the electricity or tried to pack up - they had just got in the car and gone - although they did have very little children so not sure what else they could have done if the tent was leaking. Lots of people left during the night. We were like you - didn't hear the forecast and spent the night calming two toddlers.
I like the photos, it looks very much like the conditions that were at Ingoldmells nr skeggy, where a lot of people packed up sunday morning.
Sunday evening my sons outwell vermont xl collapsed as did a montana nearby, my son & wife spent the night with us in our conway cruiser + awning, and helped us pack it away (no damage I am pleased to say) on the monday, of the remaining tents only about half a dozen remained standing, the rest were ripped open and flapping about or flat on the ground.

I do like the way that the only tent left standing is the little Vango Venture (?) in the background.
Big domes and tunnels aren`t really up to very high winds, are they?
I'm please to say our Wynnster dome stood up to a right old buffeting on Sunday night with the help of the good old Delta pegs. Think we were one of the few tents that didn't need pegs hammering in during the night.
Stumpjumper, we were at Snet for the 2CV weekend last year and it's the only time I've ever been concerned that I wasn't going to get pitched, we triple pegged everything, added additional guys and tied parachute cord between the poles (in a DIY Vango TBS system!).
We were at Brands this weekend just gone, thankfully in a hotel!!
Is the third picture in Bardencampers set a new Coleman Gallileo? (is that the right name?) http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x249/lougarbard/camping07015.jpg
Edited to add - I'm amazed at the number of windbreaks people have left up!
oh my god you poor people it must have been really scary.. we are off to devon tomorrow.. i hope the weather calms down a tad but i will peg every guy rope. dont you worry...
