we've just had a brill weekend???. 22 girl guides, just a field, take our own loos, constantly emptying them in a pit. Torrential rain, got back late last night absolutely Kn*******. Can't wait to go civilised camping where there are showers!!! The best advice is just going prepared for all weathers and if you have small children making sure that there are dry weather things close by ie the cinema, soft play area. Don't let it put you off Ashleigh you've probably been through the worse, you learn something new everytime you go camping and it gets easier and more enjoyable.
Just come back from a faboulous week at Forest Fields in mid wales. Sat evening and all sun very wet. Half of camp was watching Pirates of Carribean at Buith cinema. Mon and tues nights -2 but dry had a great time with ehu heater hot water bottles and a mixture of clothes. Hired firepit for evening did bbq then fire on it till 12 oclock. You can put lots of layers on. Just go prepared.
Our first experience was much like yours, but we didn't let it put us off and now we go away whenever we can. Nothing beats sitting outside your tent in the evening sun with a drink, the barbeque sizzling, the birds singing ...........heaven!
You were unlucky just like my sister, last year her first trip camping was exceptionally gusty for August, this year she was away with us on that BH !! say no more, and it chucked it down night and day but she never gave up though!! Hang on in there it really does get better.
Sounds horrendous! Off for my first ever camping trip this weekend - just me and a 4 year old - hope we are a bit luckier. I'm sure you'll appreciate your next trip all the more when you look back on this one.
Good luck for next time
Laurie
PS This website is rather addictive and I'm going to fail my course if I don't get back to the books!!
i think i would have demanded a proportion of my money back due to the showers being out of order & no hot water! in fact i may have asked for a refund & left! that's ridiculous!
Can't predict the weather and I guess you can't predict how busy a site is going to be and the showers etc being out of order..... but I suggest you thoroughly research the site you plan on visit before booking again.
Yes, it will get better because next month is 'Flaming June'
I don't know why people are so surprised about the weather. The only surprising thing this year was the mini heatwave last month but even that isn't too unusual. I can remember very similar weather patterns when I was a kid and the poem about March winds, and April showers has always been pretty accurate.
The March winds remove old wood from the trees allowing new wood room to grow. April showers give the gardens a good watering for springtime growth of new plants and lawns.
My old mum always used to say, 'Change ne'er a clout till May is out'. What she meant by that was don't be deceived by the early warm weather because it will be changable right up to the end of May...and she was not often wrong.
The month of May is when the May blossom and cherry blossom is out and early apple blossom too. This is followed by a period of high winds which is natures way of removing the blossom to allow the fruit to grow
You can follow these weather patterns right through the year and if you accept that this is Mother Natures way of making this planet grow then perhaps you won't be too disheartened if you happen to make the mistake of taking your holiday while Mother Nature is working toward providing us with another year of rich harvests, green fields and sun-ripened fruits...
But it's a bugger innit?
It sure is, Bob, but March winds removing old wood from the trees is a great deal less unsettling than May gales bringing the darn trees down!

I actually read this and initially thought you had said you would demand a proportion of your money back due to the showers, retrocircles!
Seriously, it does sound like the worst possible first experience, ashleigh28, so good on yer for realising it was just a blip, and that next time is bound to be better (isn't it????!!! )
Maybe worth doing a campsite search, using the icon at the top of this page, to find a site with better (i.e. working!) facilities?

Survival of the fittest - lol. Just don't camp under trees!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do a review. I think I know which site you mean, and had thought it looked good and was going to visit. We need up to date reviews when things like showers etc. aren't working!
