just wanted to say thanks for all the tips on this site.We experienced our first trip this weekend.I am proud to say that despite 40 hours of constant rain and wind we stuck it out without any dramas. The tent was a pro action from argos, not one of the best i guess but apart from a few irregular drips and some condensation performed remarkably well.We knew from the weather forcast that the expected bad weather was coming from the north, with this in mind we pitched on the north edge of the field in front of some bushes.I think this and the use of the car as a wind break certainly helped a great deal.Anyway we are now looking forward to our next trip knowing that we can cope with the worst nature can throw at us

Congratulations on a successful first trip, I'm glad you survived what Mother Nature had to throw at you, it can only get better from here.

Like tintin my wife and I set out this weekend, with some friends and were using our new tent for the first time, we had actually bought it last year but did not get the chance to use it due to unforseen circumstances it's a Gelert Cyclone 6.

We pitched up at Seven Acres nr Frome (I have submitted a review hopefully will appear soon) with a view of going to Longleat for the weekend (excellent place to visit HIGHLY RECOMMEND you need two days though and buy a passport ticket)

Like tintin we knew the weather was not going to be at it's kindest, but the tent held up pretty well, one of the zips got stuck and my wife had to cut the material slightly to free it (she's a dressmaker so not a major problem). This does seem to be a design flaw with this tent, you have a nylon overflap that has bits of velcro on it to hold it down over the zip, the only problem with this is if you open the zips a bit to quickly they catch in the nylon and get stuck, this meant we then spent the next 15 minutes in howling wind and rain trying to get the zip unstuck. Then to add to the fun we discovered our trusty inflatable airbed (used on several previous camping trips) had developed a slow puncture so we went to bed on a nice firm bed and woke up on the groundsheet.

All of that said we both thoroughly enjoyed the weekend and are looking forward to our next trip (probably August bank holiday) as the tent is still less than a year old we MAY try and see if we can exchange/refund due to the sticking zip problem or we may just let it go and maybe just trim off the nylon overlap.

Glad you enjoyed your maiden outing! And it just goes to show that a well pitched mid range tent can out-perform many of the big name tents that hit the deck this weekend.

Angelicamarzipan, in answer to your zip query, I can assure you that this design of zip baffle is very common in tents, and catching the zip on it very common as well. You get used to it. (Sez the woman of 30 years camping experience who jammed one of her own zips last time out and spent ten minutes in the peeeing rain too getting it unjammed.... )
