Recently signed up to ukcampsite. Fantastic place for top tips!
Anyway, this is my 3rd season camping with no electric hook up. This season I am taking some 12v power, (lights,12v tv etc etc)
I was thinking of purchasing a car battery booster with 12v cigarette lighter on it and wondered if anyone else had tried one of these?
Are they any good or am I better sticking to a dedicated leisure battery?
Thanks in advance.....

The most hi-tec we get is using a mobile power pack. Has the car jump leads on but also a light and three cigarette lighter sockets. It's handy for mini radio/tv and charging mobile phones. May also try the mini fridge on it this year but not sure how juicy that is. It was a bargain in Aldi about 6 months ago. O/h bought more expensive one from argooose but its useless already after less than 2 years so fingers crossed for my cheapy one  lol

Thinking about ehu but like the idea of being indepnedant : )

Although battery boosters are lighter and easier to carry around I think you would be better off with a leisure battery. I have both in my caravan and I use my battery booster for running a small B&W TV/CD/Radio. General light use it lasts about 3 days. If you are running lights and other electrical equipment from it, it won't last long. The leisure battery on the other hand hardly uses any power at all for lights and water pump so it could take the little TV as well if I wanted, and would last a fair while I should think.

Mine is 17ah battery booster with one 12v socket and the jump leads of course. Below are the figures it gives on the instruction leaflet which may help you :-

Flourescent lights, cell phones....4 watts....30 hours

Radios, fans, depth finders....9 watts....21 hours

Camcorders, VCR's, spotlights....15 watts....12 hours

Electric tools, bilge pumps....24 watts....7 hours

Electric coolers....48 watts....3 hours

Air compressors, car vacuums....80 watts....1.5 hours

I concur with Bobs timing for powerpack.  We get about 2hrs from a portable DVD player.  Just long enough for a film.  We use ours just for air-bed pumps and small light in evening.  Usually sees us through a long weekend.  Campsites are usually happy to recharge
