Hi

Went camping for the first time in my life (now 42) this bank holiday weekend and had a great time, despite the weather. The problem I had was this; I have purchased a Vango Aspen 500 DLX with a footprint ground sheet, which when laid out sticks out just past the outer flysheet. The rain was so heavy and persistent on the Sunday that we had a lot of water going between the inner tent and the ground sheet in places it was like walking on a water bed then the inner tent started to leak at the seems. First question is, what am I doing wrong? and the second question do you think my inner tent should be leaking on its first outing?

Kindest regards

Terry

First of all, your footprint groundsheet should not be sticking out past the flysheet for this very reason, you get a small rivier running between the inner and the footprint. Perhaps this just put the inner under too much pressure. I would have thought the footprint should have been slightly smaller then the tent.

ditto above - footprint should be 1" - 2" shorter all round otherwise ....well you know don't you.........

.....yip, if the inner tent groundsheet is made of polyethylene then water under the inner tent will eventually ingress through.

our vango footprint is slightly bigger than our tent but all we do is just peg it out (to stop it blowing away), position the tent on top and then unpeg and fold the excess under the inner.
