While I am unashamedly a Grumpy Old Man, there are some things that do merit a damn good moan.

Got to site for Whit weekend, blowing semi-gale. took trouble to line up rear of tent (tunnel tent) to wind, pegged out enough guys to weather a tornado strike. Brilliant! Sat in calm in front of tent, glass in hand, watching pets & small children blow past. 

Next day wind turned through 180 degs and stayed like that for rest of stay! repositioned windbreak & car, but tent v unhappy at facing gale (stayed up though).

Does this happen to anyone else, & what's the betting that if I'd upped pegs & turned the whole lot around, the weather would have turned back again.

Still a good weekend though

I can guarantee the wind would change again.
We watched what looked like a father and son 'bonding' group expertly arect a large tunnel tent over the weekend. The wind changed direction the following day and they dutifully rotated it through 90 degrees and reguyed every last sodding rope. Hey presto it changed again.
They packed up and went home the same day!

Fortunately we were in a bell tent so it wasn't an issue!

We had a similar experience down in south Wales this weekend set up on the Friday pitched into the wind and on Sunday the wind shifted through 90 degrees and the tent was taking the full force of the wind in the side of the tent

If I had tried to turn it I think it would have ended up in north Devon not south Wales we lasted 12 hrs of heavy battering before the front hoop broke in two places when the side door was opened

I've set my heart on vermont L .Sounds like yours had a right buffeting silverweb.Did it sustain any damage?

I agree with Geoff - we put our faith in Delta pegs and pitch according to the sun or the view.  Regards.
