I have the tent and the kit i think i will need but am looking for any handy hints for making my trip go smoothly. I am a single mum kids aged 7 and 9. I have had a practice pitch in the garden and managed it!! So looking for any advice on good sites to go to, things should or shouldn't bother packing. All advice gladly received.
Thanks
Rachel

Hi Rachel, welcome to the site. Take your sense of humour, warm clothes, wellies waterproofs and plenty of blankets, oh and don't forget your corkscrew, you'll be fine.

have a look in the campsite search section for site reviews in the area you want to visit. also check out the meets and rallies section, see if there's any near you, great way for new campers to get started, plenty of help at hand if you should need it.and eveyone is welcome .

Hi Rachel

I think starting off fairly close to home is good advice, it all seems a bit easier if you know you can shove it all back in the car and go home if things don't work out!

This is very sound advice and as a single parent myself to 11 and 14 year olds I can understand.  Like Piglet and Tigger say - its easy to go home if things dont go accordingly!  Look for sites that are kid friendly - some have pitches close to toilets and play parks just for families such as ourselves.  Do Not be afraid to ask for help - we have all been at the beginning of a new venture at some time - most people would be glad to help you out.

Rememeber this trip is for you as well so take a bottle of wine a good book and chill - the kids will be off making new friends giving you chance to get to know your neighbours or chiling with a well earned glass of wine or a brew and book.

Good Luck!!

Thanks for the advice. Think i will book a week-end close to home and then somewhere a bit further away for the summer, if all goes well. Will remember to pack the wine and a corkscrew.
