I put off a weekend in the Lakes by watching the weather report. It`s been a beautiful week in the lakes but looked a bit dodgy for camping and kyaking on the couple of day forecast towards the weekend. Now I find it`s been a glorious day over there and am a little grieved that I`m sitting here instead of being in my tent. Does anyone else actually listen to the weather man? Or is the thing to do just go and brave things whatever?

Yes my husband demands the weather forecast all the time, especially being a farmer and all that and me for camping and seems to always be a mixed one. I also like you thought it was going to be a wet weekend. I did put tent up in garden (checking purchase just as well as faulty). Thats hope for more sunny weekends or at least rain in the night so bad. Where do you camp in the lakes any suggestions?
Last week when the kids were on holiday, I took myself and my 3 kids (plus an extra 1) to a local campsite on the Thursday.... this was after seeing the forecast of showers over the next few days. We took a chance, and boy, did it pay off!. It was glorious sunshine all the time we were there...
The only drawback was we really wasn't prepared for the lovely weather and had more 'warmer' clothes rather than vest tops and shorts.
So in short, no, we don't take much notice of the weatherman (just check the seaweed )
Thanks for the replies.
Sharon - been all over in the Lakes and love anywhere there. We tend to stick to the National Trust campsites, they`re all in lovely scenic spots, especially the one at Wasdale.

Not after our last camp. We couldnt get away for the BH weekend which was very wet and windy. We had 5 nights booked from the Monday and the forecast for the week was more of the same. Heavy rain and thunderstorms. We ummed and ahhd on the Monday morning then rang the site who said it wasnt raining and the pitches were well drained so we took a chance and went. Very glad we did as we had 6 days of lovely weather, hot and sunny with only light rain in the night. I will never take any notice of the weather forecast again.
We always look at the met weather site when we are at home but if we are going camping looking at the forecast beforehand is a no no. We go anyway, went over the BH and apart from the sunday the weather was good and we had a brilliant time.
Up to three days ahead, most weather forecasters should be pretty accurate. From three to five days and it's an educated guess, anything more than five days is pure guess work. As for ten day forecasts, they're just fantasy and best not looked at!...
I often use weather.com and bbc and they are always different ..............i tend to look at the radars or infra reds and make my own decisions and they are often better!!!
The forecasts are not always right. If you have the time to go camping, take the chance and go. After getting through the storms in Bude at Whitsun we feel we can cope with any weather now. When the weather is sunny you really appreciate it more. Fingers crossed for next weekend going to Lower Lacon in Wem, Shrops. Would appreciate comments if anyone has been there before.
.We were the same ironed out. Went the monday, had a few showers that day and rest of week was either very good or reasonable. Didn't know wether to go or not because of forcast but dead glad we did. PamJ
