Hello I was just wondering when the camping season starts and ends. We normally have our first trip whitsun and our last is late August.

When do you start your camping trips and finish them? I suggested going Easter last year to be told by friends that it is far to cold to go then?!? What do you all think?

I'd  say do what you want of course.  We go when the weather is good enough.  We went in April this year for one weekend.  We've not been out since.  Fingers crossed for the weekend after this.

We took some friends camping first weekend in June 2006.  Blazing hot days, but they all froze at night (due to poor bedding layering on their part) while we were fine.  They all refused to go with us the same time this year.

So if you have the right equipment and plenty of layers go for it.  You can always make new friends on site.

We went at the end of May for bank holiday...thought that was early enough for us to go...think that if we had a tent with a sig though we would probably go earlier.

Am planning on having our last trip in the first two weeks of September.

Hi DixieDancer!

Easter is normally the start of the season and End of October for closure.  However there are some people out there like myself who would go camping all year round and often do - if you check the details of a particular campsite they normally tell you their own 'seasons'.

Remember to write a review and submit it on here in the relevant section.

I have a sort of main season, which runs from June 1st to Sept 7th. I then have a "lucky" season, which can start as early as easter.

The June till Sept season I am not that bothered about temperature. A cool day in August can be quite refreshing, rain is the biggest enemy here though so I try to steer away from that.

The Easter till June season, it is all about temperature (for me) and mainly night time minimum temperature. It does not matter how dry it is during this early season, if the nights are cold forget it (for me).

(for me) = for my family, Im a window cleaner and quite happy being out in all weathers.

Our season usually starts in May, but our first trip this year was the weekend before Easter. We did take EHU & a couple of heaters though

Think it depends what you're used to, and how many layers you're prepared to put on!  Thermals make a huge difference as do decent sleeping bags.  We don't take EHU.  Earliest we've gone is end of April and it was cold at night but once we were in our sleeping bags we were nice and toasty.  The trick is not to get cold but put your thermals on under your clothes as soon as you feel the temperature going down.  Now camping in the heat - that's going to be another experience! - never done that before and we're going to France this year!
