Went to Camping and General over on Canvey a few days ago. they have a few different types of these new windbreaks there, picked up one all packed away in its little bag, they are small when packed but rather heavy i thought !

not sure if they are much heavier than the wooden pole types - we had the stripey wooden pole ones when we started out but changed to the outwell one due to the pack size....the wooden poles were to long to fit in the trailer!.

The stripey ones have served me well to date so I'm going to stick to that principle.
I accept that the Outwell types probably perform better overall but my camping mates already take the pee out of me for obsessive guying out of the tent and the amount of equipment I bring. Detailed assembly and pegging out of windbreaks is likely to get them sending for the men in white coats
I hope we haven't sacred off too many new visitors to the forums who thought choosing a tent was difficult
Trouble is, we ended up guying the wooden pole ones!
And, as for those nice, kind people in the white coats, surely they could at least help to pitch the ruddy windbreaks???
Sounds like something else I need to put on the list before we go for the first time! Just seen the Vango windbreak (5m long) for £19.99 at Millets with £10 off.

Yes, I went into millets yesterday to get a couple as they are £10 off but millets only have them in the marine/lead (listed as navy) colourway not mallard as pictured, - I was gutted! I want mallard to match the aspen so looks like going to have to order them online from somewhere else and pay postage, anyone know of the cheapest price for the vango windbreaks in mallard?

outdoormegastore has them for £24.99
Thanks fairyprincess - have seen them on there and have used outdoor megastore before - really good, however I read on another thread somewhere that outdoor have got their name written above the vango sign on their windbreaks - don't really want that if I can help it!, probably being a bit fussy but not really into free advertising, will keep looking and fall back on them if can't get them anywhere else.
The metal spikes really just keep the base in place, they do not support it at all. I would think a bit of water poured on the ground would manage the job as they really are only about 3" long.
But I am confused by this thread. See I have a tent as do a lot of other people on here (lol expect this one to be a tad sarcastic) and I do not stick it in the ground using great thick broom handles. It is just pinned down and guy roped.
So imagine a tent, without guy ropes, without pinning down, just a few wooden broom handles dotted about here and there smacked in the ground to hold the thing up.
Are some of you honestly saying that this is a better method of resisting the wind?
