How do you cope?

Reading the messages on here, lots of people manage to get away most weekends.

I bought a new tent and equipment on the understanding (OH demands) that we could have loads of trips away and hence, original investment was a sound one.

We have three kids, 10, 5 & 3. I work full time. OH does all the other stuff: Cleaning, toddler to nursary/play groups, pick kids up from school, swimming lessons, gym tots, rainbows, cubs, etc

I finish work on a Friday and find myself too busy with tidying, cleaning, gardening, etc to go anywhere.

So how do the rest of you cope ? do you all have cleaners, gardeners and nannies ? If we went away most weekends we'd have Kim and Aggie round in no time.

We dont get away every weekend, rather that we will try to get one 1 to 2 week camping trip in during the summer plus 3 -4 weekend away.

We have a trailor stored in the garage, all packed with the gear and ready to go....so it makes it very easy to go camping at the last minute (just pack some clothes and food and hook up trailor - ready to go).  It works - this would be my advice!

When your camping no one messing up the house.  That sorts the cleaning out as for the garden while your away you can't see your grass grow.  For most of us I would say family before possessions.  The house can be painted later but you will never get this time back with your children.

Well you can spend all weekend cleaning, gardening and what not if thats your bag.

Or you can do it in the evenings and actually "do stuff" during the weekends.

I find it easier just to not bother doing any housework. Currently my flat looks like the inside of a skip. But thats ok cos most of the time i dont have to look at it, because i'm usually away in my van or camping.

In fact i'm going away today, i just gotta fight my way through all the empty beer cans and pizza boxes to get out the front door.

We go away every weekend the sun shines. My kids are grown up so i basically try and keep on top of the housework during the week.If the weathers bad and we can't get away the house gets a good do.
Big jobs like decorating are done in the winter months. The summer is so short we make the most of it while we can

I do jobs in the evening and have one weekend in three at home usually.  If I stay at home I will always find things that need doing - that is part of the pleasure in going away.

I work full-time (with a 2 hour journey by bus each way!!!), my bloke works full time and we have a 9 yr old kid. If I want to go camping for a weekend then I have to justify it by not leaving any house work for him-in-doors to do (he doesnt "do" camping) so I tend to do garden (mow, tidy, etc) on tuesday evening, hoover/mop and polish on wednesday and then just iron and pack everything on thursday evening, get home at 5 on friday (if I sneak out of work early), tent is up in Ashbourne with the kettle on by 7 pm latest! FANTASTIC!

(I admit that I never have time to clean the bathroom before I go but he hasnt noticed yet so that doesnt count  )
