We've just bought this stove http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/redirect.asp?redir=http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/5039150210200 having previously used a very basic Sunngas model.

This had a nut at the end of the gas hose that you could screw and unscrew from the stove by hand which was dead handy.

This new one though looks like the gas taps we use with bunsen burners at school (which made me !!!) and just attaches with a jubilee clip. Does this mean we will have to use a screwdriver every time we have to move it?

Not the end of the world I know, but when the same co. are clearly capable of a much better design, it's v. annoying!

All you need to do Daisy, is disconnect the regulator from the gas bottle and leave the hose connected to the cooker. If you have any doubts whatsoever, talk to a professional gas fitter.

Happy camping!

I do exactly what Teloz has said and that is leave the hose and regulator permanently attached to the stove with jubilee clip and detach the gas bottle when packing up keeping the brass top to screw in to the gas bottle when the regulator isn't attached.

Thanks, we'll give that a try. The only problem is I don't think they'll be room to get the hose in the box with the stove. The connector is right at one end, pointing to the edge of the stove, which only just fits in the box.
I work in the science dept. of a school and I was going to get some thick walled hose from tere. Is this advisable? How much does 'proper' hose cost?

I can't imagine a school scrimping on health and safety so i imagine that the stuff you use at school is "Proper Hose"

I have had several stoves over the years and they have all had the hose permanently attached to the stove.  From a safety point of view this reduces the chance of a gas leak adjacent to the naked flames of the burners, so I personally would not disconnect the tube from the stove.

We use a Campingaz bag for our double stove. £9.99 from camping stockists as once I attached the hose it was not possible to get the stove back in the box. The bag is big and will take any size or make of double stove plus hose. We also get our griddle plate in ours as well. I have also just bought a metre of the orange hose for a gas BBQ and it cost £2 at my local camping shop.

Thanks everyone. We didn't have anything the right size at school in the end so I bought 1m from yeomans for £2.50.

I really don't think we're going to be able to use the cutout provided on the kitchen the thread the tube through though. It would have to double back on itself very tightly so we're thinking of pushing it through the corner. This pinches it very slightly but I think it'll be better than the alternative.

Thanks for the tip about the bag, I'll look out for one.
