We've got a completely loopy 3.5yr old german shepherd/collie cross ( and a 5 yr old daughter). We took up camping last year, taking the dog with us and she was a completely nightmare barking at people and try to jump up them for attention (even though she was tethered).
Since then we never took her again (and paid a fortune in kennel fees), until last weekend. We went camping with my husband's brother and sisters and their familes one of whom took their dog, so we thought we would try again.
We invested in a can of pet corrector which is just a can of air that you spray when the dog is doing something you don't want them to do i.e barking, jumping up, waitng for the postman etc......and it worked a treat. Yes she still barked once or twice but as soon as she saw you reach for the can she stopped and didn't try to jump up people. She was a million times better than before. We tried barking collars previous to that but they didn't work and didn't stop the jumping up.
We also use one of those corkscrew type things that go into the ground to attach her lead to and regarding tents we have a sig so she can't get out under the flysheet. Never leave them in a tent by themselves though.
Would definately suggest driving lessons !
