Hi Everyone,
Well we finally bit the bullet and bought a new Vango Breckenridge 600 from Raglan Camp & Kite Centre. Very happy with the tent and the service, and practice pitching it at Bryn Bach Park on the weekend (while dodging downpours) only took an hour - so overall well chuffed!
Now we come to start looking for suitable cooking equipment, and need further advice. We almost bought a coleman two-ring cooker on the weekend from Yeomans for under £30 (which we thought was reasonable), until we realised the gas and regulator/pipe etc that was not included would cost more than the cooker! Is £50 an average price for gas? We also noticed a more expensive cooker but which ran on unleaded, which we thought would work out cheaper in the long-run.
Any advice on the whole world of camping cooking?
Hi Rich-T,
Were in the same boat. went camping with family last month. Liked it so purchased a tent (Gelert Lokon Vario 6 with Sun canopy). We are purchasing the rest of our stuff this week and WAS planning to go on our first sole trip this weekend.
After looking at the various cooking options we've decided to got for
3x Gelert Bistro Stoves http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/redirect.asp?redir=http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/503915207000 I like the fact that they pack up small and don't require a big bottle of Gas.
1x Gelert 4 Slice Folding Toaster http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/redirect.asp?redir=http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/5032307002826
1x Hubcap Griddle http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/redirect.asp?redir=http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/camping/cooking/5039150203998
and a "Camp Kitchen" table http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/redirect.asp?redir=http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/camping/furniture/5039150201512 to put them on.
I belive the Gas cans are now around £3 for four in Asda.

yes but they do require lots of butane canisters, and you will end up with lots of half canisters as they lose pressure half way down and seem to take ages to boil the kettle, we have one and only use it for picnics/days out. big tip is make sure you use thin camping pans with them, anything thicker with half a canister and you'll be there all day.
We have 2 of these, which we've had about 4/5 years and cook everything on when camping. We haven't really had a problem with the canisters unless we have bought really cheap ones. There is another thread on it here:

We haven't had a problem with the majority of canisters. It normally takes 8-10 minutes to boil a kettle for 4 cups of tea so while it's not as speedy as an electric kettle, it doesn't take forever either. They are much more convenient than lugging a gas bottle around. The hubcap is a great piece of kit and we use it all the time but I have to agree with other people about the toaster, it kind of drys bread slowly rather than toasts it.
