Has anyone used a tipi before.  I have been looking at them online and they look great fun, not sure how many campsites would allow them.  They are very prices but the idea of being able to light either a fire or a chimnea inside really appeals.

I don't see why campsites wouldn't allow them. They often have a far smaller footprint than some of the large family tents.

I have never had one myself though I am very tempted by the idea. Once saw a nylon one (so no fires lol) but the beauty was it only had one pole. Great for limited packing space.

Those big ones on the other hand..............

We saw one pitched at a C&CC campsite in Wales a few years ago, looked great.

I had one when I was 4. Must have been all of a yard in diameter. Wasn't allowed to light a fire in it though!

Don’t know what the camp site would say if you turned up with a 30ft tipi that holds a 100 and sleeps 20

like the first ones here

We used to camp at a very basic greenish sort of summer gathering in Devon, where there was always a sprinkling of yurts and tipis. I thought they looked dead elegant and much nicer than our nylon thing. Until I saw them pack away, and realised that those really lon tipi poles didn't collapse, and a yurt takes up the whole roof of a car on their own. The weight and wind resistance suddenly made them look a lot less attractive! Nylon and collapsible poles have their advantages. The modern tipi-shaped tents look funky, if you don't mind the sort of tent where you can only stand up in the dead centre.

I need to hire a big tipi for a birthday party in North Wales in October. Anyone got any ideas where I can hire one or two to accomodate 150 guests. Many thanks.
