OK you wonderful people out there....please help me on this one if you can

I've had to pack my tent away with damp guy lines...now I know this may seem like a stupid question, but do I need to unpack my tent and dry them out properly ? I've used the search function in respect to packing away wet tents, and in response to that I unpacked and dried off the tent, but it was about to start raining again, so I had to be quick packing it away again  and noticed that the guy lines were still damp as I did.

Do I need to unpack it all again, or is it just me being a little over zealous/worrying about nothing ?

Thanks guys, LD

yes I would dry them out if you are not planning to use your tent within the next few weeks - they will cause rot or mould patches/stains on your tent.

Can you just unpack it in a spare room of your house, and spread the parts with the guylines attached out so that they can dry indoors?

Hi All,

We got back from our first trip last weekend with wet tent. We luckily have a dehumidifier so we opened tent out in spare room and put the machine on and a few hours later it was dry...

We just had to wait for dry day then to take out in garden and fold up to put back in carrybag.

Dehumidifier is best thing we brought in ages!

Do all campers, like we do, start to worry two days before breaking camp about the weather being dry and sunny so we don't have to pack away a wet tent. Touch wood we have never had to do this, Pure luck I know. But I sweat the night before we are packing up. Why can't the major equipment makers come up with a box that dry's the tent, cleans the groundsheets and polishes the pegs all for about £9.99?. Come on we put a man on the moon and brought him back almost 40 years ago.

I bought some metal clips(Think the are meant for hanging heavy curtains) They are very strong and none have broken yet in two years. I can detach my guy ropes when i brake camp, and put them in a plastic container and can wash and dry them when i get home. I have two different lengths so i have two different colours to show which is which when erecting the tent

I also take with me two plastic bags ,big enough to take a wet tent and a muddy groundsheet, its better than trying to put a wet tent into it's proper bag and keeps the mud etc away from the the rest of your gear

wot he said.

i should have thought about getting it dry when i bought a ridgidome as we have nowhere at home to dry out a really wet tent, especially with blinkin' great poles attached! . I hadn't thought about the guyropes and i am not sure that curtain hook trip would work with the triguys.:(

at the moment my fairly dry tent is loosely packed in the back of my van waiting for a calm dry day to take it somewhere to air it,  repack it and put it away.   You sort of expect that you'll get a day like that in june/july.

Thanks guys for all your comments/advice.

As for worrying about it being dry when packing away Davewyn, I worry from the start of our break about that ! As I don't have a particularly large garden (to be honest once it's anything more than the oblong of turf my garden currently is) there's no way I'm going to be able to lay out the tent to dry, let alone try and put it up should this happen again.

I will have to see about hanging it over the bannister on the top floor, using a new, clean ground sheet as protection against the muck that's going to invetiably be left behind *groan* My O/H will be pleased to realise we're going to have to pack it all away again, I'm sure....
