Thanks Ice9 for the google on those sites, looks like either one would do. It's close enough to home check out both.

The problem is if you have a large family you have no choice but to buy a large tent to accomodate them

The point that's being made is that large tunnel tents provide a similar amout of space to large spread domes but with a much smaller footprint.

The opening poster asked for opinions on large tents and that's what has been given...

Ah but other factor that really should be taken into consideration is aesthetics...

What does your tent actually look like and do you think it's cool!

Trust me, if you end up with a tent that you don't like the look of it will ruin the experience. Personlly I don't like the look of the large tunnels like the Outwells and the Sunncamps, I prefer the more '4x4' looking Khyams such as the Khyam XXL Excelsior or the Ultimate Classic...but then again...I would

So true, I've rejected numerous tents in the past because I thought the colour sucked, only to buy one practically identical in design.  I like symmetricality, and reject those tents that look like bin liners caught in the wind - though I guess that has more to do with how they've been pitched. If the camping bug bites my husband as well, no doubt we will be after a more 4x4 brand this time next year. Watch this space - cheap camping holidays are beginning to cost me a fortune!!

We are a family of four but love our 7 berth Vango Aspen.  It has 3 rooms, (huge middle 1 for us, 1 for kids and use the other as a walk in wardrobe as it also has a rail that you can hang clthes off.  The tent is huge and adults are able to stand upright anywhere in the tent.  The living space is large and can easily accomodate a large table and chairs etc.  It also has a nice porch that we use in evenings with the table and a nice candle.  Not forgetting the many bottles of chilled wine.

My wife and i are pensioners and love the luxuries of camping. We like the large tunnel tent At the moment we have a chearo we bought 3 years ago from index, and it's not let us down at all. We love the Vermont range that Outwell make and next year (When they've got there leakage problems sorted ),I'll be first in the queue for one of the 2008 models
