At least some smoke out of my Galaxt 1.9TDi would be good, on Monday they cam belt broke at 70mph, and supposed to be going away on Saturday for 10 night in Devon!
Only done about £1000 worth of damage and put off going away till Tuesday!......wish mine smoked!
Thanks for that, hoping to get a new Galaxy in about 3 months.
Well, a lesson learnt. Even if the bloke who you buy the car off swears blind that he has changed the belt - do it yourself and never trust anyone. Otherwise car is GREAT :)
Plastic cam belts do snap and therefore should be faithfully changed at the manufacturers recommended service intervals, typically at 60k miles. Engines with chain driven camshafts are generally more reliable than those with plastic belts, but failure is not restricted to one or the other. What is important is that the car should be serviced regularly and the service schedule faithfully adhered to whether it be petrol or diesel powered.
