Wouldn't it be great if you could get black-out / dark bedroom pods. Our SV8 is lovely and light inside but does mean our dear little 3yr old thinks the day starts at 5am. I had an idea that making pods from maybe a nice midnight-blue would cut down the morning light whilst leaving the main body of the tent lovely and light.

Any tent manufacturers reading this, please feel free to nick my idea!

how about getting some clingons and putting dark material on the bedroom pods, but my boys tend to sleep late when camping as they are exhausted from all the fresh air and late nights and running around all day, at home they are usually up by six but camping often sleep till 8 8.30

Has anyone ever tried to blackout a bedroom pod? I would be interested to know if and how this can be done. My daughter is now 18mths and on our last camping trip my husband and I slept in shifts as she was up most of the night.

Thanks

Re Christine's suggestion for eye masks, we've got a couple that my mum and dad gaves us (they came in a pack they got on a long flight).  Both mine (9 & 6) think it is great to wear them.  I'm going to try them out when we go in a couple of weeks.  Not much good for tiny ones tho!

5am? Er, yes. On our first camping trip at half term, the birds woke us up with a deafening racket and as it was daylight I foolishly thought ok time to get up. Got the kids up and dressed before looked at clock and it was 5am!!! Won't do that again!

Surely, extra black-out bedroom pods would sell like hot cakes? I'd definitely get one. Khyam - please take note!! In fact, I might email them and ask why they don't do them!

They'd have to be easy to put up and take down, as I imagine on a very hot sunny day the inside of the tent would turn in to a mini furnace. It's bad enough with current "lighter" colours they do. Plus on the somewhat more frequent greyer days, you'd want to allow the light in.

Do you mean you have children that don't wake you at 5am normally? You lucky b'stards. Kids are up no earlier for me camping than at home. I lined curtains with black out lining for no 1 son - didn't work so I can't imagine it would be possible to make a black out pod. Its just one of the great bits of camping! At least in France I can pretend its 6am ....

i've often wondered why tent manufacturers haven't thought of this!

Most people are not used to daylight around 5am and would love to be kept in the dark until ready to wake up.

The first tent that comes up with dark bedroom pods will be a sell-out

Years ago when I was camping with friends with a small child they bought the blackout lining that you use for curtains and 'draped' it over the pods between the pods and the flysheet. It's not perfect but it does the trick. If you buy thermal blackout fabric it also keeps the rooms cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. I'd forgotten about this trick until the subject was mentioned. Will defo. be trying it later in the year.

Theres nothing wrong getting up at 5 am .

The campsites nice and quiet (apart from snoring )There is no que for the showers and you can sit outside with a cuppa and watch the sun come up.
