Hello all!!

I purchased my first tent recently (Cedar Creek from Milletts) and am planning my first camping expedition within the next couple of weeks with the Wife and Tiddlypeep (age 6).

So far I've got the following equipment:

1 Tent

3 Sleeping Bags

What else is essential for a beginner on their first camping trip?  I guess I'm thinking of airbeds, cooker, etc but I'm not really sure what's best and what the 'etc' is!!  Any help and/or advice would be appreciated.

Cheers

Micky Badger

Hi Micky,
If you go to the features/tips page there is a camping checklist, you probably won't need all these things for your first trip but it will give you a good idea. The only thing I think they have missed off is a sense of humour - the most important thing you will need!!! Happy camping, hope you all have a great time.

I would say something to sleep on - airbeds (and pump to go with) or foldup beds - whichever you prefer, lights, and something to cook with. Depends how luxurious you want to be as to what you buy - have a look at www.ukcampsite.co.uk/redirect.asp?redir=http://www.towsure.com - they sell most things you can think of - will probably give you some ideas.

Bear in mind whatever you buy, you have to carry with you - make sure you can fit it all in your car :)

Mike

Hello Badger

Here is Val's List

Start here, then decide where you want to go and ask which systems are best for you.

If you buy an airbed, make sure you take a fleece blanket to put between the airbed & your sleeping bags - personally I think airbeds are great, really comfy, but they do create condensation, so the blanket will avoid a wet sleeping bag when you wake.

Saucepans, crockery & cutlery you can take from home, no need to buy special ones for your first trip. Don't forget your pillows

Wow, thanks guys (and girls!) .... it seems that key message here is beer and wine

I also like the tips about blankets, pillows and using cooking stuff from home.

Now, I'm getting to a point where I'm going to start making purchases:

I've been over to simplyhike.co.uk and they seem to have some bargains so I think I'm going to plump for:

Campingaz - Camping Chef Stove at £38.00

Coleman - Comfort Bed - Double at £23.50

Coleman - Comfort Bed - Single at £15.00

Gelert - 5l Zig Zag Water Carrier x 2 at £2.00 each

I think all I need then is a table of some description and a sort of kitchen type table thingy then I'm sorted ... ooh and some lamps but I've just read another thread about them.

And then the roofbox and the trailer.
