I've just bought an Outwell Hartford XXL for my initial foray into the virgin territory of canvas based kipping, not thinking how I would practice putting it up before I travel away for the first time with the family.
My garden is split by two patios, one top, on bottom, with a swathe of grass that is wide enough, but not long enough to put up my new acquisition. I don't want to go away for the weekend for the first time without trying it, but how on earth do I manage this!
Any advice etc. from anyone on the forum would be very welcome.
Cheers

Hi Caddy O Daddy, and welcome to ukcs! Have you thought about pitching it in a local park? This should not be a problem as you would not be sleeping in it. Maybe a friend or family member has a large garden? Even a local campsite (just to pitch). Hope you get sorted. Happy camping .

I must say that there is a real feeling of community on this forum. This has played a big part in me joining the world of camping. My wife had a few iffy experiences as a child, but I want our kids to experience the fun under the stars that I had as a young 'un!
None of our immediate neighbours or family have a garden big enough, but the park sounds a great idea. Would a campsite allow a pitch only?

Alright Caddy O Daddy, just down the road from you. All our tents get there first "erection" in Heaton park. A site may ask for a few quid for a practice but get in a corner of a park & have as many arguments as you want while practising .
we put ours up in the park on Friday and had a right laugh what with the wind, the dog walkers and the kids. As we left we noticed another couple doing exactly the same as us so dont worry it looks like its quite a common event!!!
