Just go out there and have a good time. Also I don't think that anyone has mentioned this yet but make sure you take plenty of Beer / Wine.
Why does everyone think that to have a good time you have to take alcohol with you? Many people on here are not into that culture so you shouldn't generalise....
i stopped drinking about two years ago,but most people like to relax with a drink, it does not make them raging alcoholics ,maybe just start again to celebrate makin my mind up which tent to get

Yep...blankets without a doubt! We went away in the may day bank holiday and almost froze to death!lol

We alway take something for our daughter to do as soon as we arrive! We usually give her a pen and paper and tell her to do a Treasure hunt of places on the site. We usually already have a rough idea of where toilets/playpark/laundry are but she feels like she is helpng by doing these things for us!! At eight and a half, she likes to try and help erect the tent but ends up getting in the way, bless her so doing the treasure hunt buys us time and by the time she has "helped us" by finding our where everything is, we are nearly sorted and can enjoy the weekend!!

John's list covers it all really.

You forgot - don't have noisy sex & turn the lamp out before getting undressed.

Please DO have noisy sex and leave the light on, the perv in the next tent will find it highly entertaining!

Buy a tent with spare bedroom, great for storae and keeps the living area tidy ( loads more space to store the wine).

If you can, try and get some of the LED ceiling lamps (poundland have a 20 LED lamp that takes 4AA batteries (it says AAA on the box but ignore it) and lights up your tent like daytime.  Should last for 30 hours on a set of 4 decent AA's and weighs hardly anything.

Take a gas match as well as ordinary matches.

Avon Skin So Soft skin cream if your ever tempted to head for the north or west of Scotland is the best midge repellent I've used (it's like an off switch).

Take screw top rather than cork top wine then you don't have to worry about finishing the bottle(s) in one session.

Kids glow sticks make great night lights.

Check the websites for any attractions in the area you're visiting in case they've got online discounts.

Depending on your guy rope colour consider getting few extra luminous ones which should make them harder for your neighbours to stumble into in the dark.

If the pitch has a slope think about pitching so that the beds can face down it.

Check if your car has a permanently live accessory socket.  If so you can run a fridge in it. But don't forget to start your car regularly.

Try and pitch so that you can take advantage of any available shelter from the prevailing wind, especially if you're near the sea or somewhere high or exposed.

Take two mallets and peg extractors and put them in the tent bag.

If you're using airbeds take a puncture repair kit and make sure that your inflator is either fully charged or better still that it can reach from your car accessory socket. And that it's got a connector to fit your airbed.

Take small keyfob torches that can clip to a belt or with safety pins to whatever you'll be wearing if you need to go to the toilet during the night.  That way you won't have to worry about you left the torch as it'll already be attached to your tracksuit bottoms or whatever.

Make as many new friends as possible and have a great time.

What fabulous tips everyone has given - for us first time camping these tips are just fantastic.

We have just bought some 2 in 1 torch/lanterns from Tesco for £2.96 including batteries thought they would be ideal for spares or toilet runs.

Hi etive

Which anti midge cream do you use?

Personally I'd like to see them exterminated.
