We have a sleeping compartment in our awning (next to the campervan) and underneath this is a groundsheet.  We then put our mattresses in the compartment and sleep (everyone else is in the van). 

However, our experience over the last two 'summers' has been that every morning the bottom of our mattresses are wet.  Very wet in wet weather and damp in dry weather.  We have tried leaving the compartment unzipped so condensation can escape but this made no difference.  It is as if the water comes UP!!  There are no leaks though in the groundsheet or compartment.  Our trip this year is to Scotland which is bound to be damp and we just don't know how to avoid this, or indeed if other campers have experienced this.

The weird thing is that in our old van with the same awning we never had this problem.  We have tried using different mattresses  and this hasn't worked either. 

You have all been so helpful about breathable groundsheets - just this one to solve now... thanks in advance.

When is comes to Ground sheets i've found that if your using an awning its best two ground sheets has there breathable this leading to what's known has Rising Damp!

Try this next time you camp see if it does that trick!

are you using airbeds? if so its condensation from the heat of your body a mat under or on top of the airbed will cure it

We put a picnic blanket under our mattress and have never had this problem.........unless we have and the picnic mat just soaks the moisture up?

We also put a fleece blanket on top of the mattress and a sheet over that, with our sleeping bags on top. I have noticed though that the flock mattress top gets damp, but I just take the blanket and sheet off to air and leave the mattress to air out and it`s OK by bedtime again.

I think i will try that a water proof picnic blanket under the double sheet with our sleeping bags on top.  Because we have a blanket under the airbed as well.

So yep give it a go.
