Went on our very first camping trip this weekend - it was fab!
We'd bought our tent 2nd hand from Ebay and were a little concerned about whether everything was included, not to mention the awful weather on Friday night when we arrived in Symonds Yat! But at the end of the day if we could pitch a tent in those awful conditions then we can pitch in anything. We also packed up in torrential rain again this morning. Our overall memories of our first camping trip though will be ones of a super laid back weekend, with lots of fun.
So to those of you who are about to attempt first time camping - good luck and you'll have a great time. :-)
well done and welcome to the manic site for campers. we are away this weekend, cant wait!!!arrgg wanna go now, but opps work gets in the way, glad you loved it. oh happy days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IT'S HEAVEN AND HELL!!!!!!
I'm a lifelong camper, but this coming weekend is our first camping trip in the UK. Going to Newhaven in the Peak District and can't wait!!!!
It will be the first camping trip ever for our 2 year old. We got out all our sleeping bags and he loved that and then had to try out the other 4 before being satisfied that they were all cozy.
Thanks for sharing your first camping experience with us.
We went camping this weekend too, it was our 4th time, like you we put our tent up in heavy rain friday teatime, had lovely sunshine saturday, then the heavens opened all day yesturday while we were packing away.
Our new vermount L is draped all over the garden trying to dry out now.
But we still had a great time, and it hasnt put us off!
we've just come back from coombe martin (newberry valley). pitched in the damp, spent friday at Watermouth castle in the rain, fried on the beach on Sat, and struck camp in the monsson yesterday. am still washing, and tent is drip drying in the garage as the garden isn't big enough and it, too is wet!
great weekend, tho, and looking forward to the next trip.
Im new to this site too, and we came back yesterday from our first ever family camping trip. Not the best weather for a first camping trip was it? Haha. We went to Filey, and apart from the really crap weather and being covered in mud mostof the weekend, we had a great time. We had to go hunting on Saturday morning for somewhere to buy storm pegs, as most of our normal pegs had bent, and were struggling to keep our tent down, some unlucky people lost their tents through the night! We are having another weekend camping trip next week, before our week long trip end of August. Enjoy your experiences. S
