Not as much with Ebay more the sellers.Last month I paid for a new Lichfield 6 Delux Tent through Paypal. The seller did have probs because of flooding where he lived so I waited about 10 days before contacting him. After a further couple of days he got back to me (again I waited because I guessed he might have probs with getting to a computer) .He offered me chance of a refund or he said he'd send the following week.Well I decided to wait again.Having still not received it after the further week I emailed him. Then I did not receive a reply so I set up a paypal dispute (by now this had dragged on 3 weeks !).Oddly enough when I started the dispute through Paypal he answered. The thing that got me was that I knew he was sending stuff to other EBay buyers during this time.Eventually a refund was issued settling the dispute, although it takes up to 9 days for the money to transfer through paypal to my bank.(which is still ongoing)

This Sat just gone I bought a Skandika tent from EBay.Today I get an email from the seller to tell me I haven't paid anough money - even though the listing stated £155 plus £14 shipping. No mention of additional payments !!!! Have emailed them & asked for explanation.

Just not meant to have a tent !!!

To be honest I would never buy a tent off ebay - I would rather pay a few pounds extra in a shop knowing that it was guarenteed and any problems could be resolved face to face.

ask for refund if you dont get satisfactory response

http://www.totalcamping.co.uk/

Check out this link, they are a bricks and clicks company and have been in the business for about 30 years. I learned that from some of the members here.

I bought my Nebraska xxl from them for 399, they normally sell it for 439. I read somewhere that another member bought a tent from them and asked for the footprint for free and the did so. Always ask for a discount and do your research. I haven't really heard of any good reviews on the tent you are buying. For myself, I have only seen that brand on ebay uk and no other uk sites, that makes me skeptical, especially if the profit is going to another country. Don't quote me on this though, I could be wrong.

You don't need an expensive tent, just a good quality one. I don't have a problem buying tents off ebay, just research the tent and the seller.

You will have your tent. I'm curious as well as to why they want more money. Keep us posted and best wishes.

To be honest I buy from EBay because the shops where I live are pretty much limited in what they sell.I work Saturdays & don't have use of a car during the weekday as husband needs it working 15 miles away.Never had a problem with EBay before.Always buy from people with good feedback .However I guess you could say that EBay does have it's flaws.

Hi cookie66 - is the seller in Germany - called Max Trader?

If so, I have used them several time and always found them okay and prompt - and their Skandika tents seem to be slighlty better than other EBay tents in terms of their specifications - we were pitched next to one last year at a festie where there was quite a storm, and the Skandika withstood it just as well as our Khyam Conquest and other well known makes such as Vango and Gelert.

Thanks to all who replied.

Yep Foggers the seller is Max Trader.

Funnily enough checked my emails last night & thetent has now been shipped, no mention of my query over the extra money. So I guess it was a mistake on their part.I had checked out his feedback & mulled it over for about a month whether to buy from this seller, even when I was in the process of buying the Lichfield from the other seller.

Can't wait to see what the Skandika is like. The kids have never been camping.Hoping to book somewhere in Norfolk to try it out in a month's time (though I guess this is not leaving much time to sort out)

Cheers

Jane

We have also bought a Skandika, delivery was very prompt. We have had a test run at putting it up and it was very straight forward. We are very happy with it and looking forward to using it in a couple of weeks time. Hopefully the weather will be nice for everyone under canvas that week.

Have a great time in Norfolk.

The number of problems our members have when buying camping equipment off Ebay is frightening. It goes from totally unsafe electrical equipment to really dodgy tents with holes and tears that 'where not there when I sent it'....it really is just not worth risking this kind of purchase.
You really are better off sticking with the tried and tested. I remember I had bought a tent from Blacks and it had had a manufacturers fault. I emailed Blacks regarding the problem and within an hour they had replied and sorted out a replacement. Try and do that with an Ebay deal....I don't think so!If you really want to 'save money' by buying online, then try looking at the 'for sale ads' here on this site. It must be better than risking Ebay!

Would recommend AllWeathers in Essex. We brought from them via the internt and saved a fortunate. When we pitched the tent for the first time and noticed that there was a problem with it, AllWeathers were fantatic sending us a replacement and collecting the old one with no charge to us. They even told the delivery people what time to deliver it so I didn't have to wait in all day.

I've just bought from Allweathers aswell - so far, so good. Very helpful on the phone, delivered within 48 hours. Good to know that if there is a problem it will be resolved quickly.

Our first "big" tent was an e-bay Skandika, we still have it & it was great, very easy to put up,didnt leak but did get condensation in living area as its a single skin,we had no problems getting the tent & delivery was quick. Eventually got a bigger tent for the family but still use the Skandika now & again when friends want to tag along to try camping,it hasnt put anyone off yet.

I also have a Skandika tent off ebay, a caravan tunnel tent, the service and delivery was excellent, no mention of any extra monies owed. I have used the tent twice now and I love it. Plenty of room and easy to put up.

The problem isn't Ebay, it's peoples niavity.

Buying from a shop, or even someone local from the paper lets the seller know that you can come knocking back on their door if they rip you off.

And still it happens.

For a dodgy sale set up on Ebay, you don't know where they live, and they can delete your email with a click.

It's going to appeal to a con man.

An accurate description can be given that doesn't include faults - let the buyer beware!

An awful lot of people are incredible with the amount of trust they hand out to complete strangers.

Traders on Ebay are a different matter. They are bound by the same laws as any trader, and most build a good business by being fair - but not all.

Although an Internet business should be much more cost effective than a shop, no shop to pay for for a start, and so give you a better deal while maintaining service levels, you can only go so far before you cut the service to cut the cost.

If you're careful, this can lead to great bargains, but you must make every effort to protect yourself.

Pay only by Paypal, or cash on collection AFTER examining the goods, set Paypal up on your credit card, not your bank account or debit card, if you have the slightest doubt, walk away from the sale.

Hi

We have bought lots of things on ebay including two tents, kayaks and our folding camper, and have got lots of bargains. Our experiences have been good, In over three years we have only had one problem which we resolved.  We always research the item we are buying and check the sellers feedback.  There are lots of honest sellers on ebay and there are dishonest people are about on and off ebay.  We all need to take care wherever we are buying anything from.

My biggest problem with buying anything was from Argos where we had bought quite an expensive toy for our son's birthday.  we happily gave it to him, he delightedly opened it in front of us to find it had a large bite mark in it.  When we complained we were casually told that it must have been returned by someone and if that happens they are resold.  No apology, no comeback. The staff there did not care as our sons disappointment did not affect them in any way.  I am very cautious buying anything from there now.  At least most sellers on ebay are careful with their descriptions of goods.  They don't want negative feedback, as it means many other buyers will not touch them.

Just thought I would add another viewpoint

Bye

Pauline
