Well we are new to camping and this was our first year. Bought a tent on Ebay and tbh would have preferred one that was a bit more waterproofed. We have had 3 weekends at our local campsite this year. One was a total washout, next one was wall to wall sunshine and this week was a bit iffy. Packing the tent away for this summer.
Anyway my plan is to invest in a Canvas Frame tent over the winter. Looking at getting the Sunncamp Grange or Palace and just playing it by ear. Fingers crossed that next summer cant be as bad as this one.
Have had to cancel a couple of weekends away due to one thing and another so I think I will start just looking the night before I want to go away in the future
As a newby to the world of camping can i just ask, is booking ferries very much like flights.
I mean the earlier you book the better the prices or does it pay to wait till the last minuet and hope ??
Also w want to see a bit of Brittany, where would you sail from and to. We live in Yorkshire so it'll be a trek down south what ever but Dover, Newhaven ??
We had our third and longest camping trip this year, last week. On the way it bucketed down then on approach to the site we noticed a warm glow in the sky this was the sun apparently. No the weather in Norfolk was excellent last week we were soo lucky, also on an excellent site (West Runton).
For next year, I will book a week and a couple of weekends in early November (C&CC) for next summer, as some sites were full this year.
Just got back from there myself. Thought there was an Outwell Convention going on at first with the number there when we arrived.

Hi Kathryn
I have been thinking the same myself... We went to France this year - booked early 2007 so couldn't reorganise plans when we saw the weather forecast. Thankfully we managed to get pitched in the dry and it was lovely and sunny towards the end of the week.
Next year we were considering Cornwall but understand that we'd need to book fairly well in advance to get a nice campsite, even in early July to avoid the school kids! However, if the weather is going to be like it has been this year, it's a bit of a gamble in a tent... We can't go abroad coz the car will be too old to get European breakdown cover.
El cheapo package deal to the Costas, anyone?!
We went to Cornwall last year when we were having the heatwave and ended up coming home 3 days early because it rained 3 out of the 4 days we were there!!! (And I mean really rained, thought caravan roof was going to come in!)
We usually decide which country we fancy, and book the ferry in Jan. As we are just 2 ' almost 60's' we can go out of season. This year we went in June but the weather wasn't as warm as we would like so next year we will go back to Sept.
So far we have never booked a campsite in advance! We like the freedom of going wherever we like and changing our mind at the last minute. We do our research on the net and pick out sites we fancy, We usually stop at a Formule 1 or similar for one night on way there and back and have never booked this either!
This year we camped 3 nts at Lindau, Lake Constance, 4nts at Seiser Alm (fantastic site!) in the Dolomites and 5 nts at Interlaken in Switzerland.
For 2008 we are looking at Northern Spain, around the Picos (we love Mountains) and northern Portugal but again we won't be booking anything but the ferry.
