What do you think would happen if the wind picked up when away camping I have camped in the rain with no problems but with the weather we have been having recently would it make much of an impact on the tent, if so do you think I could use these just to help keep the tent from going anywhere, I know there designed for awnings but was thinking of getting 2 just to lay over the pole section where the main living area is on my tent and give it enough tension that I dont snap/or put to much pressure on the poles.
Our sunncamp tent was secured with two of these last new year... broke both!!! Mind you, it was gale force winds so not surprising. We found that the main problem with the wind is that it slackens your guys, so I'd advise you to invest in delta pegs for one thing. The other thing is that even with two tie downs, your poles can still break. Of course, another factor is the height and pitching of your tent in the wind, however you cannot alway know which direction it's going to come from...
Ayup Jonsey. there used to be summat like a big corkscrew tent peg. I have no idea if you can still get them, but if you can, they're top notch ! think they were for pets if I remember right.

We use Delta pegs on our Montana6 and after our last visit to Cornwall a few weeks ago I would trust nothing else. On the Saturday we arrived to pitch in the rain and the weather just got worse throughout the day. By the evening we had strong winds and driving rain to the extent that it drowned out the radio we were listening to. At one point we were quite concerned and contemplated returning the next day if the weather did'nt improve. Luckily it did so we saw the long weekend out. Anyway, in all that wind the tent did'nt move an inch althouth the outwell pegs that I used to secure the flysheet to the ground did bend a little but all the guys stood fast. I have Delta pegs for all the guy lines, the canopy and our day tent.

We had a ton of wind, thought for sure our tent would come down. But the tent held strong and never gave. We had the metal pegs for the tent itself and then the thick plastic ones for the guys. Not one single peg budged the entire time and I probably wouldn't bother at this time with the delta pegs. We do have some metal pegs with spirals at the end for harder pitches but am happy with the pegs I have.

Hi Jonsey
The tie downs your link show are not recommended for your type of tent the only tent that Should consider a tyedown
strap is a frame tent with additional poles to support the extra stress on the poles.
The use of Delta ground anchors will certainly stop your tent from blowing away but the main problem with very strong Gusting winds is the frame buckling and I think the only thing a lightweight tent can use to spread the weight over the whole tent and old the poles in place is possibly a net held down with multiple guy ropes and delta pegs.give it some thought.Only to be used if gales are forecast.

cheers Rex thanks for the much needed info, every little bit helps the tie down idea was like a sheet to the wind really, just wanted some ideas wether or not to use them, I know they are quite good as my mum and step dad has one for there awning on the caravan, but I know one thing I will be purchasing some of those delta's once the bank balance has restored it's self..
