Ok call me dumb!!

this may be a question that im too embarressed to ask down at the shop, but what does it mean when tents boots socks and alsorts of camping gear are 2 season, 3 season, 4 season etc.

Hi Tom.  I see you're from my neck of the woods!  The season ratings put on camping gear such as sleeping bags apply to the time of year they are best used, for instance a 4 season sleeping bag would see you warm all year round but a 3 season bag would only be used during Spring, Summer and Autumn etc

It refers to the how many seasons you can use them for throughout the year..

2 seasons for spring and summer use.

3 seasons spring summer and autumn.

4 season all year round.

Sort of like a comfortable usage gauge.
