I know it would be possible to camp then, but how desirable is it - half term is late Oct? After the camping season we're having I'm keen to drag it our as long as possible to see if we can get some decent weather, but I've never camped that late in the year. My oldest daughter starts school in Sept, so after the 'summer' holidays, half term will be our next opportunity.
I'd reccommend EHU for out of season camping, in fact we have it all year round! Means you can camp any time of year. The way the seasons have shifted, October isn't a particularly wintry month to camp. Winter doesn't really start until January now!
Come west. Spring starts early, autumn ends late, winter is half-hearted. Last November I photographed red admirals and Catherine wheels on the same day.

I know what you mean, I'm from Devon, and it's always milder when I visit. May well think about a camping trip there in oct.
we have been away in October half term for last couple of years, both in our Folding Camper and previously in the tent.
apart from what has been already said regarding extra blankets/heaters etc. it would be worth pointing out that at that time of year it gets dark at around 4pm!
so you will need a few decent lamps or you will be cooking your dinner in the dark!

We are thinking about going away in October too - OH has no weekends off till then. We dont normally bother with EHU - has anybody gone without a heater at this time of year?
We camped without EHU last October half term in Derbyshire in our Combi-camp. We do have a gas heater but didn't need it. Last October was quite warm, even Halloween weekend was warm enough without heating.

If you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, just keep going till you go round the bend.
We have been away on holidays last week Sept and first week Oct for the last couple of years and the weather has been really mild. Even was sunny where we went for long walks without coats. Hope you get the same and have a fab time.

Everyone brings happiness to my life, some when they arrive and some when they leave.
Our experience last October was not like many on here. We went to the Quiet site in Watermillock near Ullswater, and it was cold and windy and rainy and dark by 5.30. But we had a geat time and wll go again this year!!!
We've booked Cornwall in October Half Term. It may be cold, it will be dark so EHU at that time of year is a definite for us. The campsite rents EHU units for a minimum fee.
Though the Dome / POD tents get a fair bashing on many postings, their design, coupled with the full inner makes them ideal for camping at this time of year.
