Hello all. My boyfriend and I have just become the proud owners of an Outwell Oregon 5 and other miscellanous camping gear. I found your site very useful in persuading us to take up camping, and have chosen our first site from your search and reviews to take out tent on its maiden voyage!

I have one question which I know someone out there will be able to answer; there seems to be a multitude of different types of tent peg out there do we need a selection depending on weather or will the standard metal ones provided with the tent be ok?

Thank you

Hi there.  When i went on my first camp in my new tent I only had the standard pegs that came with it.  The ground was very sandy and soft and in a very strong wind one night, the pegs just came out of the ground (very scary). Since then I have purchased 15 delta pegs - super strong pegs they are indeed, and I intend to take them with me every camp, just in case.

I cant give you any more info than this, but if you do a search on this site, just type in pegs or delta pegs in equipment, more info should come up for you. Also, somewhere in that info there should be a link of where you can purchase delta pegs. Hope you find it helpful.  louise

In good ground and good conditions, they are fine and with our first relatively low tent and fairweather camping in nicely drained fields they were all we ever had and they never failed us.

BUT if you find yourself on bad ground or have a higher tent or move beyond being very fairweather campers they can fail fast and drastically, so if any of those three apply, do get something better.

I've gone for Deltas rather than muck about with a range of types, though I have seen people who carry a HUGE bag of pegs around and select them like golf clubs or fishing flies (usually with a partner rolling their eyes in the background).
