Most of my camping this year has been with my scooter, tent etc.

Now I'm thinking of a trip with my cycle, but have never found the panniers all over the cycle very handy with all the gear.

Thinking about a trailer. Seen one or two on the road. Looks handy, you could take it off at the sites and "have your cycle back".

Or is there a catch?

Anybody do it?

Thanks, Ian

We were camped next to a fellow with a bike and a trailer - he pitched the tent (huge tent for one chap) and piled his stuff in the tent - then went out on his bike - that was the only time we saw him, by the time we got up in the morning, he was long gone.

OH did querie how the chap would stop going down a bank if he had to - would trailer bang into the back of him.  Sorry cant be any help, just saw this at the weekend and thought I would mention it

Plenty of cycle trailers around...just Google. The ones with one wheel at front and back are more manuverable and can go through any gap the bike can, unlike the pram type ones. "Yak-Bob" used to be the best brand in my day, though there are undoubtably newer ones.

FAO Lorna, they stop just fine, because the coupling is rigid. (I used a baby trailer for years so I know.) You do have to have good bike brakes, up to the total weight though.

But you can carry a full camping kit on a bike using front and rear panniers plus rack(s).Hubby and I cycle-camped for years, perfectly happily. You can`t haul a Diablo and the kitchen sink along, of course, but you can carry a fair bit.

Hi Ian, this is a picture of me and my rig. The trailer is a "Koolstop Wildebeeste", rather expensive as trailers go, but it handles very well and has a capacity of 40Kg. The thing to bear in mind with a single wheel trailer, is that you have to balance the whole load rather than just your bike, but there is less rolling resistance. Although they aren't in the photo, I had front wheel panniers as well, I tended to be a bit wobbly setting off, but once rolling no problems 'til I got to the uphill stretches!
