just about to go away for first time with trailer next week. and no security for the trailer sa yet.

i wondered what most of you do on here? ive toyed with the idea of a hitchlock but was advised a small trailer like mine (4X3) could still get chained to a car and stolen.

wheel clamp seemed a good idea, but was told the trailer could be lifted onto a bigger one and stolen.

then someone said removing the wheel was the best idea, but that seems like it could still get stolen same as the wheel clamp idea.

yes, im probably being over cautious, but what in general do you all do on here?

thanks
Hi davo
Most of the time we have a little area cordoned off at the rear with windbreaks were we have BBQ and eat out. our trailer stays within this area. we have a rear door on our tent though, but you could put a windbreak close round it at the rear of your tent. Out of site out of mind.

Out of curiosity, has anyone ACTUALLY seen/heard of/ known a trailer to be stolen from a campsite? I know I`ve never heard of it happening.

You can get trailer insurance from the Camping and Caravan club for about £47 if that would ease your mind. We have their tent insurance which covers the contents of it (and the tent cos household insurance doesnt cover your tent once you erect it )- but we have not got trailer insurance- we spent the money instead on a wheel clamp. It gives us peace of mind and we always make friends with our neighbours on the French campsites so they would know if someone else tried to nick it. We think a visible lock of some sort acts as a deterrent----

We have a chain we use to secure the trailer to the car as a safety measure in the event of anything happening with the hitch itself.

Our hitch is the Bradley type and takes a long hasp padlock which we have.

When on site the chain gets wrapped around the hitch just as a detterent.

Never really been worried about somebody nicking it from site. But we do not leave it unattended more because of the gear we carry in it.

But we start our journey to Cornwall in the morning and will arrive there on Saturday.

Hi,

Was in Towsure the other week and saw some heavy duty, chain screws, a bit like a long corkscrew that you wind into the ground, park your trailer over the top, and chain and padlock the axle to the top of the screw.

For a small trailer looked the best option, like you say, a wheelclamp is useless as it can still be picked up.

Cant find it on there website, but they defo' do them.

Cheers

Victor
