We always BBQ as far away as possible from the tent but not all pitches have the space.

We have used a those disposable BBQ and placed them on the camping kitchen but have been worried that a slight breeze will blow the hot ash in the air onto then tent and burn it!

Will the tiny bits of ash burn a hole through the tent?

Yes, stray sparks or hot ash from barbecues will melt holes in your tent, or your neighbours tent or windbreak instantly. A friend of mine wrecked a £200 Gortex jacket by sitting downwind of one of these disposable barbecues while it was cooking.

Play safe and use a windshield, or if it`s breezy, don`t barbecue. You don`t want to be writing the neighbour a £400+ cheque for replacing his new Outwell, after all.

That's why charcoal BBQs are not allowed on many sites abroad. We use a great little portable gas BBQ made by Royal - called a suitcase BBQ. With this we can BBQ in all weathers using a gazebo if it's raining without any danger of setting fire to the campsite
