Is there anything you can put in the tent so when you have the door open all the local bugs and pals don't come flying in, we,ve just come back from a fab week in Chertsey and was pitched beside the river. It was too hot to keep tent closed up but loads of midges and other critters came flocking in when it was left open. any suggestions please?
i dont rate avon at all used it on skye and the highlands ,not one bit of difference,,i use stuff the council workers use ,highland regional council,,forget the name but you can buy it from H.I.S outlets in inverness and fort william ,its good stuff
This one may cost you a bit - but a mix of essential oils keeps all flying beasties from the door!!
Thyme, Rosemary,Lemongrass and Peppermint - mix 10/12 drops into a little bottle, either add 1 or 2 drops of oil to some baby oil to rub on body, put into used tea lights around entrance to tent (or onto material strips hanging around tent) - apparently you can also use neat on groundsheets.
Good chemists sell these oils (or online retailers) and they go for a couple of quid each. But there are approx 100 drops per bottle.... so when you do the math it works out okay I think.
From looking around I found Avon SSS was highly recomended, also when i tried it I didnt notice it smelled much, much less that a lot of deoderants. Also taking some insect repellent of 50% deet which hopefully should work aswell, was what the travel store recomended for a trip into thailand.
I took my grandchildren camping in Devon last year and we went fully armed with Avon SSS, but after the 50TH bite ( or thearabouts) decided we needed something stronger. A trip to a local camping store and we came away with some of those green rings that you burn and two or three DEET based products that you spray on. Can`t tell you what worked or what did`nt but we sprayed us,the tent and most of our clothes, we burnt the green rings and YES no more mozzie bites, so i think if you are camping anywere near the little blighters go for the OVERKILL method
