was it the joint that snapped .. or the pole ??
one of our top bedroom poles is a bit bowed. We have been on a couple of very windy slopes in dorset so i am not surprised .. although why that was where the strain showed, i am not sure. I carry spare joints but not spare poles. Maybe i should.
we had camped for a couple of very windy nights before we realised that the edge of the annexe should by looped into the 3 guy ropes as well as tied. that was a very noisy and flappy experience. doh!
It was the joint that snapped we had a spares kit that came with tent but we thought it just had spares for the camel leg joints and when we rang khyam at 10 when they opened they said there should be one in the kit but we where in the middle of the Eden project so could not chance it so we ordered new ones anyway as we would still need a spare.
I bought a couple of extra spares for that joint because someone in a camping shop told me they are the most likely to break.. even though they seem the least likely.
was it easy enough to pull the pole from the joint ?? I think i should replace the pole.
also.. i should put the number for khyam spares on my mobile!
i say i not we because i am the camping shopper .. luckily my husband usually agrees that what i have bought was a good idea after all He is very pleased with the canopy (and the annexe).
well i just purchased the excelsior xxl & annex (2.5m x 3), as advised the tent would leak the first time thaqt it rains, but hey ho my first trip with the tent and heavy rain all day and no leaks what so ever (apparently the first time it rains the stitching will swell with the rain causing a water tight seal)
and the annex was perfect without any water collection at all, i did make sure the guide ropes were tensioned up a couple of times afer putting the tent up, i was happy all round with my purchase..
sorry to hear of your problems hope that you get it fully resolved.
we have finally used our annexe. we had non stop rain on tuesday and the annexe did really well. I am glad we used the support pole, as even with it there was some pooling of water either side of the support pole but it did run off with gusts of wind. I am tempted to get another support pole and have it the other side of the window as well.
Thanks all for your kind words. The tent is sorted now, camping and general sorted it out under guarantee even though it was over a year old. I was amazed at the damage that happened though. Fortunately the material didn't tear anywhere, but 2 poles got bent up and all 4 joints at the knees completely snapped.
If anyone has an annexe then make sure you get the extra pole. I believe with the extra pole that the thing will be rock solid.
2tents the other threads were very informative, thanks.
ive emailed outdoor action to ask about the extra support pole for our annexe. I got a really quick reply asking if it was 2006 or 2007, they asked for our order number and address, i emailed back advising it was the 2006 model so will just have to wait and see if the pole arrives. Will keep you posted.
may i just say that i received an email from Outdoor Action on Monday saying that they had posted my pole kit. Tuesday morning it arrived. I noticed that it was for the classic and not the excelsior (although i am not sure if there is any difference). I contacted Outdoor Action who told me to keep that one and they will send the correct one, and first thing this morning it arrived. I can't recommend Outdoor Action enough, such a trouble free transaction both for the tent and the extra kit.
