We chain ours to a fence if we can or, more usually, we chain them together and to the bike rack itself. We have a towbar mounted rack which cost about the same as my bike so I wouldn't want to lose that either (especially as we couldn't then get the bikes home!) We turn the bikes round so that they are back to front/ upside down on the rack so that it can't be put straight onto a car and then chain the whole lot together. We then hide it behind the tent out of sight. My bike was cheap as far as bikes go and my OHs was 2nd hand so didn't cost a huge amount either. As such we aren't too worried about taking them camping. If I had an expensive bike, I'd probably think twice about it.
Unfortunately, I've never come accross bike storage or racks on a campsite before which I find quite surprising given how many people take theirs camping. I'd be happy to pay a small fee to know mine was secure and I'm sure other people would too.
