I have a couple of frame tents which I love. We started off with a dome - which was too small, and when we were looking for bigger fell in love with a Kos 6. That was it - my affair with canvas frame tents had begun. Sadly I lost one to mice - so we have invested in a steel cabinet to store the canvases. We have a trailet tent - again canvas.
I have a Sunncamp Contential 4, which is great for when I don't want to tow. However I am still waiting for a replacement leg pole. Now I don't know if the delay is the fault of Sunncamp themselves - who are impossible to get in touch with, or the shop who promised to get me one two months age. So I managed to win a Gelert Cadiz 5 on Ebay - which will serve until I get my replacement pole. (Got to admit I thought I's lost this tent in gales earlier this year - but when I retrieved it from the garden it was in tact.)
I think that the only advantage some of the more modern tents have, is they take up less space.
I bought a little old caravan which we keep in storage in Dorset on a site, the idea being for easy weekends away and which I could for just me and the children during the hols .... guess what we're really excited about? ... taking our frame tent to Wales next week!!!!

We bought a Sunncamp manoir frame tent 7 years ago when the family were really small and enjoyed it for three years in all weathers before we moved on to a trailer tent and then the Pathfinder.
I started trying to sell the frame tent still in excellent condition 3 years ago. it was advertised in the local paper, supermarket, post office at a reasonable price each year with no luck and the price dropping each time. I even tried to give it to our local brownie troop but they were not interested. Last year i tried ebay with no luck. Then back in June straight after the bad spring bank holiday i tried ebay once more "If it does not sell its going in the skip"
10 minutes after putting the add on I had 6 watchers and a bid for £50. by the end of the week over 750 people had looked and 50+ people were watching. We had 6 families come to have a look prior to bidding all desperate for a waterproof canvas tent after dome tents had let them down over the bank holiday. It finally sold for over £250. I could not give it away 12 months previous now I wish I had an endless supply!!!!!!!!
I bought my Cabanon Espace 8 frame tent after my generously donated but seen better days old frame tent decided to flip over and buckle while I was taking it down - due to Force 5 'gust'. Looked at these flimsy nylon things but decided to go for canvas again. MAN, am I pleased with it - only paid £300 for it from ebay. There are bargains once in a while!!! And we're usually the biggest. Now thats waht I call an ego trip!
You certainly won't regret going for a canvas tent again - no creaking fibreglass poles & flappy polyester when it's windy. That feeling of security in a frame tent when the weather's bad is priceless
We went camping 2 weekends ago with In-Laws /friends etc . Lovely long weekend except my Brother-in Law managed to rip his polyester tent while putting it up! He (and his 3 children ) ended up sleeping in our tent and noticed a big difference between our respective tents. He even reckoned it was warmer???
I was luckly enough to be given a 4 man relum frame tent from a freecycler recently and we are going to use it on bank holiday weekend and I cant wait. It is almost perfect save for a tiny tear in one of the mudflaps. We have had it up in the garden for a week and had tea parties in it.
There are actually going to be 5 of us so there will be one adult and 2 children in the bedroom pod and lots of space for luggage and my husband and I will sleep in the living area (colder but neccesary).
After this trip there will only be 3 of us so it will be perfect for us and lots of kit.
we realy like our Sunncamp Palace SE, many, many people have commented that it is a trailer tent but you have not got a tow bar? how do you carry such a beast of a tent, when you tell them that it's a frame tent and it sits across the back seats of my maxda3 mps they are amazed. We recall one lady made a diversion to the wash block every morning just to see our tent?
Trouble is as it's so large inside the wife keeps buying things for it, now i have to get a towbar and a trailer just to carry the extra 'bits'?
Just like mikehome we love our Sunncamp Palace too. Yes it's heavy and takes up a lot of room but it makes our 2 weeks in France very comfy indeed. Have recently invested in the sun canopy for this year's trip to SW France and I'm glad we did as it completes the look of the tent and provided welcome shade. I just wish the curtains were easier to put up!!
Mind you we were the only frame tent on the whole site - and for a few days the only Brit campers too!!
