I just booked the last trip of our camping year...my son`s birthday camping sleepover. I doubt we`ll be managing any more camping after that, what with the darker nights and my Hubby`s work schedule. I feel rather sad about that. Where has the summer gone?

Birthday sleepover? I`ve booked two pitches and we`ll take both Oregons, just to see them up side by side. Six eleven year old boys, four adults, one five year old girl. We`ll have a barbecue on Friday night, with birthday cake, then we`ve got an outwards bound day planned for Saturday...swimming, walking, climbing around a local castle or cycling round the local forestry place. (Depending on weather.) Fish and chips for tea, home on Sunday morning.

I`m exhausted just thinking about it, actually. Fortunately they`re all good boys that have camped before so they know the score, and there`s a big football and games area where we`re going to tire the little horrors out.

Are you talking about this weekend , Val?

I am away BH weekend, and then the one after with friends, and that might have to be it for me. After this washout of a camping year for me I would love to get down to Cornwall again this year but with the way September's stacking up I can't see it happening.

And rather like you with your brace of Oregons, we plan to put up the Cabanon P6 and the Noumea next to each other the weekend we will be away with friends! MT

Know how you feel about being the last camping trip. Last couple of years we've not been able to go due to our work commitments and bills etc. But this year i really thought we could go out a bit more, but the weather has been so awful. Our last trip that i know off, unless OH has anything planned for his b-day in october, is the end of this month. Taking my 2 sisters and mum with us as well.

No, second weekend in September. Son`s birthday. I hope we get the weather!  We`ve got another trip planned before that, but it`s only a one night stop with the pup tents for another big gathering at a local campsite. We`ve got a pitch about twenty pitches away..we all prefer that to the "circle the wagons and exclude the rest of the camping plebs" type arrangement. Two tents together is enough, IMHO, especially when it comes to getting kids to sleep.

I can't believe we will be wintering the caravan again in 2 months time Val.  It seems like yesterday we were down there, removing the cover and giving it a good going through.  Ho hum.

We're planning to get away locally this weekend, then we have a weekend either the second or third weekend of September and then I imagine that will be it for us.

Not had a dry trip this year! Still had some good trips though

Hi all
Yes it as been the worst year I can remember. We have only had 6 weeks this year Just one really wet one but most year we would have had double that by now two to go that are booked and we will finish of at Slapton sands midway through October for the birdwatching. Val was talking to one of the C&C Club managers this morning and he told her the club as had a very bad year.
But they may be one good thing that may come of it, It may have dampened the will of the weekend yuppies.
Regards
Rex

We are planning a night in the Lake District 1st weekend in September. I was thinking about that being the last trip, but would you recommend going 21/22 Sept to North Yorkshire? We don't have EHU, only a little black cat heater. We just bought a Quechua to supplement our tunnel tent so we can go for impromptu weekends. Only problem is - when it is sunny, the OH is playing cricket so out of season might work for us!

PP

PS - I hope the above does not make me a "weekend yuppie" also!!

If it's just the two of you going then I'd suggest camping close to a cosy pub and spending the evening there.  That way you stay warm in the cold and entertained in the darkness.  After drinking all evening you won't notice the cold as you get changed and fall into bed - and you'll sleep well!

I know what mean about the cricket, my problem is that perfect camping weather is also perfect for golf.

I'm not sure if you'll be classed as a 'weekend yuppie',  I'm sure Rex will let us know where we stand in the morning.

Just booked Callow top, Derbyshire as (maybe) our last camping adventure for this year. Where did the summer go?

Anyone for a Indian summer in the October half term?

We are hoping to get away for a few nights the first weekend of October .... just a thought - if that makes me a weekend yuppy, what am I the rest of the week?

Anyway, after the dismal weather we have had on our first 3 camping trips this summer it cant be any worse, and if we get an Indian Summer it could be gorgeous - empty sites and I will be able to stock up on all the equipment we still need nice and cheap cos people will have given up on camping and be selling all their stuff off!!

My last one will prob be first week of oct, am going to lake district for a couple of days walking/climbing in training for doing 3 peaks challenge next year.
Hoping its going to be ok weather, more for navigating scafell rather than for the camping.
Mind you, i tend not to feel cold in my vaude taurus due to the small space heating up pretty well.
